         <title>Top 5 Legal and Ethical Concerns at a 1A 6-Man school</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I spoke to my Elementary Supervisor, who is also the  Dyslexia Coordinator, Testing Coordinator, and Elementary Physical Education Teacher in regards to legal and ethical concerns related to her job.<br><br>#1 State Testing has been a concern because of the legal and ethical issues implicated in the confidentiality of scores and educator viewing.  She has attended numerous professional development workshops to comply with the laws.  <br>#2 The use of personnel has been an issue at the school. She has been consulting with the Superintendent and Human Resources manager to identify how funds affect the capability of assignments.  <br>#3 Confidentiality among professionals is a major concern because of FERPA and HIPPA laws.  Constant contact with the Superintendent and Region Center has helped facilitate the understanding of what can and cannot be released by teaching professionals. <br>#4 Response to Intervention is program that has not be implemented effectively, which has resulted in a lack of documentation.  She has been identifying the requirements for the program and has been receiving guidance from the region center.  <br>#5 School Safety is a major concern because educators are not aware of the process of dealing with students who threaten violence.  The Superintendent and the administrative team have been reviewing the laws, and they are in constant contact with law enforcement and outside agencies to develop and provide a safe environment.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Rural Education Funding</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Throughout the years, rural schools have been affected by funding.  The 1A 6-Man Districts rely on Federal funding and innovative methods to provide a high stakes education to all students (Bigham, Nix, &amp; Hayes, 2014, p. 37).  Thinking outside of the box has lead some schools to build a future for rural America.  However, there have been some schools that have not been able to maintain open doors due to the lack of funding.  <br><br>According Bigham, Nix, &amp; Hayes (2014), one innovative teaching method is using technology (p. 30). The school I teach at, uses distant learning to allow students to take college classes and all elementary teachers teach two grade levels.  It is a true benefit, in my opinion, to teach 4th and 5th grade because I am able to close the gaps and build a strong foundation for the next grade level.  <br>These rural schools do rely on the community and the enrollment of students to create a positive outlook. Schools have used taxes and bonds to create more revenue, which shows the support from the community (Bigham, Nix, &amp; Hayes, 2014, p. 31).  <br><br>"Small public school districts scattered across Texas serve not only as educational institutions, but as the life blood of their communities" (Garcia, 2017).  Without the school, the community will suffer and without the community, the school will suffer. </div>]]></description>
