b) Between the two versions, choose one version you will NOT read to your children. Why not? Justify.

· Charles Perrault’s Little Red Riding Hood. As this is a story targeted to young children, Perrault’s version might be too frightening for them. Perralt aims to educate children on the danger of being seduced by evil due to their attractive appearances and naivety. It ends in a bad note, which is not good for children. Supposedly, we are ought to plant hope within them, a happy ending.

· The Grimms’ version might intend to explore the same theme and moral values, however, they did not explicitly state the danger of having an alluring appearance in attracting evil eyes. Their version, albeit still ends with the horrific death of the wolf, still presents a good ending for the protagonist and her grandmother.

c) What role does violence play (if any) in conveying the moral within the story? Justify your answer.

· The violence discussed in both versions are meant to imply the reality of society. The author often uses violence play to reinforce moral values among adults of French civilités. For example, in both versions, the authors are using the wolf as the antagonist that owns wickedness. She ended up getting fooled by the wolf and even ended up being dead in Perrault’s version. Death can be considered violent for young children. However, the author tries to tell that death is actually the punishment for her sin. Also, when the huntsman is cutting the wolf's belly open, the author tries to tell that he is willing to save others' lives although it is risky while another wolf drowns to death. This shows that evil deeds do not go unpunished.

· When it comes to children’s read, it is believed that the violence within is toned down while retaining the original fragments of the tales. This is because, for most, they reckon that children are not mentally ready to process the harsh truth of this sickening world. Truth to be said, in some accounts, caution was used, while others illustrated or evolved out of the types of punishment applied to children in the past.
