The jar is largely made from clay and the upper portion of the jar is embossed curved designs. On top of the jar, you'll see two people that said to be symbolize two soles on voyage toward the afterlife. The first human image riding a boat and holding an oar with a missing blade is at the back area, while the second human image which a person is being tied from the of the head to jaw represent the Philippine tradition of arranging dead body. The soul are believed to travel through boats just like the one depicted on the jar's cover.

During the Spanish colonization, western paintings were introduced to us. As Spaniards established Christianity in the country and converting Filipinos to be Christians too, thus artworks around this religion were made. Such paintings includes Christ, Saints, Heaven or Hell, and Purgatory. One of the famous painter during Spanish period is Josef Luciano Dans a painter of "Purgatory" and "Heaven and Hell"

Fernando Amorsolo and Guillermo Tolentino are the famous ones during the American Period as they depict Filipino culture through paintings and sculpture. As the American colonize the country, apart from contributing the Philippine Educational System, they had also influence  us when it comes to artworks like Neoclassical and Modern form of art. These influence can be seen on the architectural designs in the capital city, Manila where houses and buildings have deco designs and major buildings are Neo-classical design just the designs used in Washington DC.

Japan helped the country to improve our infrastructures including our railways, airports, bridges, etc. However, the Japanese colonization period was considered as the the dark period of the Philippine history considering of how it caused too much suffering and fear to Filipino people, where it resulted to lost of many lives, freedom of speech and expression, and the halt of the development on art in the country. During Japanese Period, the English literature in the country was stopped and Filipino writers were forced to write poems and other literature in Filipino language. Most paintings in this period is about propaganda and wartime scenes.

Modern or contemporary arts simply means “the art of today” produced by artists who are living in the 21st century. As technology keeps ln emerging where everything especially in art became more accessible, and Filipinos have now a freedom of speech and expression, they have more ways of making art. Now, we can see digital art, photography, mini-sculpture, etc. And today's generation are fond with modern arts as it is being accessible to them because of social media. Even before, art isn't just being use for the aesthetic and propaganda but also bringing awareness to it's audience.
