Two years ago, my family traveled to Oregon for a family reunion. It was a long way to travel. Along our way, we stopped at Crater Lake National Park. I was excited because Crater Lake is a volcano and I was curious to see a real volcano! When we arrived, I jumped out of the car excited to see eruptions of hot lava and smoke! However, I was soon surprised by what I saw. Water! Lots and lots of water! It rains so much in Oregon that this volcano actually fills up with water each year. Imagine that - a volcano that is filled with water. It now looks like a lake. I'm sure you can see all the blue water behind my family. It might look like a beautiful lake in the forest but don't be fooled, it's a volcano! This volcano is classified as a dormant volcano. That means that this volcano won't always be full of water but is expected to erupt again sometime in the future. Now I wasn't sure how long that might take and I didn't have time to wait around for it to erupt, but it got me thinking - Can we make lava? What do you think? Let's explore this question together!
