         <description><![CDATA[<p>How did It start</p><p><br/></p><p>In 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks declined to give her bus seat to a white man. This initiated protests from 1955 to 1956, which continued for 381 days and led to the Supreme Court decision that bus segregation was unlawful.</p><p><br/></p><p>The origins of the movement trace back further than the 1950s and '60s; Claudette Colvin, a young girl, declined to give away her bus seat months prior to Rosa Parks.</p><p><br/></p><p>The Supreme Court's significant ruling that deemed state-sponsored segregation in public schools unconstitutional is viewed as a key driver of the contemporary civil rights movement</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p>March on Washington</p><p><br/></p><p>Over 250,000 people attended the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech</p><p><br/></p><p>Emmett till</p><p><br/></p><p>The brutal 1955 murder of 14 year old Emmett Till in Mississippi drew international attention to the violence and injustice faced by African Americans.</p><p><br/></p><p>Death of MLK</p><p><br/></p><p>One of the major impacting events was the assassination of Martin Luther king Jr. in 1969</p>]]></description>
