They discussed preparing the students for the boutique through the financial literacy lessons and also agreed to incorporating financial literacy lessons into Parent and PACT time sessions. They expressed their desire to offer the students coupons just like real stores offer to enhance the shopping experience. Through the Wells Fargo financial literacy initiative, students used the Hands on Banking online learning resources to learn about money management.The TFL families and the entire student body at Village Multipurpose Center worked on skills such as identifying the names and denominations of several U.S. currency, budgeting, wants vs needs, savings and checking accounts and more. The students also took a pre and post test to determine what they learned from the lessons. In addition, students used A Day at Dollar General to take a virtual trip to the grocery store. Many students showed up for the event ready to shop! Thanks to the TFL families' hard work, Wells Fargo Hands on Banking and Dollar General resources, the event went very smoothly. It was a learning experience for all. Students used their Family Literacy Bucks they earned from attendance and performance in their ESOL and GED classes to shop for items they needed and wanted.
