Through this programme I learnt important collaborative skills when creating a comic and importance of communication. Creating a comic as a group rather than alone was a unique experience and allowed for many unique ideas and art styles to come together like a melting pot. I learnt story boarding techniques and different camera shots to make my comics more interesting and dynamic

Through this journey, I've learnt many things. I've learnt that we should always be creative and explore different ways to express our ideas. What makes an idea even more interesting is when different people come together and combine different ideas to create a new one. I think that everyone here is really creative and they all have a unique drawing style. I love it.

Lezanne Koh, Ngee Ann Secondary School

I learnt a lot in these few days about framing, sound effects, exaggeration etc. With the time constraints, my group wasn't able to add sound effects but I think the overall animation turned out well. I have also learnt ways for myself to improve, in terms of further exaggeration, the camera angles and how to work more efficiently. I also really enjoyed working with my group mate and coming up with ways to improve our outcome. I look forward to applying the knowledge and skills I have picked up in ILEAP.

I have learnt a lot from Communication Media. I learnt how to storyboard (Intro -> Message -> CTA) in order to make my video with my group mates and even presented in the gallery walk about it. This experience made me come out of my comfort zone in order to work together with others from different schools to do this project and during presentation, we would encourage one another so that both of us would not feel nervous when talking to others about our work. I hope next time, I wouldn't be using AI to do our project but instead do it more humanely because I don't feel as proud as I would have been if I did it without AI

During I-LEAP, I was amazed by how storytelling through film can express emotions and ideas beyond words. One of my biggest challenges was learning to plan and shoot effectively within limited time, but teamwork and guidance from mentors helped me improve. I stepped outside my comfort zone by taking on new roles like directing and editing. Feedback from peers helped me refine my creative vision and appreciate collaboration. I-LEAP has deepened my understanding of visual storytelling and inspired me to continue exploring film as a powerful artistic medium for communication and self-expression.

From this module, 3D animation, I have learnt how to create a short film through short motion and finding out how long it takes to create a short film. The challenges I faced in the beginning was communicating with my teammates but after a short while I managed to talk with them a lot and it was very fun to create a video either them but the main challenge I faced for this short film was ensuring that all scenes goes smoothly. I went out my comfort zone by doing stuff that im not that good at for example im not good in painting and mixing colours but while making the props, I was painting my props and I managed to mix the colours accurately I-leap has shown me different art styles like fan fiction clay making 3D art and etc.

I think we could have improved on our time management as it was slightly rushed towards the end. It took time for us to communicate, which delayed our speed.

At first I thought that 3D animation was just about CGI but I was surprised to see that we were using puppets. It was challenging at first as I was sick and i was always tired, but I persevered through it and I was able to contribute meaningfully to the group. In addition, another challenge would be making the puppets. It was difficult as I was inexperienced in sewing. In the end, I am very elated with our final result. I felt that it was deep and immersive, with great visuals. One thing we can improve on is our filming skills, as I also felt that the video felt quite grainy. In the end, I am very pleased with not just myself but my team, and would not mind doing this again

During the I-LEAP programme, i learnt a lot of new things from the other courses such as UI/UX, Data visualization and media communication. Before coming for this programme, i actually had no idea what UI/UX was. These different courses, especially the gallery walk really opened my mind to explore different other types of art forms and made me more interested to try out different varieties of art forms. Usually, i realised that I'm very fixated on doing things in one way and not giving myself the chance to explore different things and find alternatives to doing things differently, so i felt that this experience has really made me step out of my comfort zone as an artist, and made me more willing to try out other things outside of the things I'm comfortable doing.

After that, we were able to plan and make up with our minds, with all that combined, we can make one final work which represents our hard work and good results. Though, I wouldn't say that the journey was smooth. There were some pros and cons—the cons were having to deal with plans, but having to abandon ones work, just because it doesn't really fit in the topic. But, we stayed strong, keep our heads up and continued to success and strive for excellence, quality, quantity and for perfection 🥹🌹

I never realised how many small frames were needed just to show a simple movement, and it surprised me how fun it was to bring drawings to life. Trying animation pushed me out of my comfort zone because I usually only draw still pictures.

I honestly really enjoy this whole journey . At first i was unsure about my chosen art choice , however after learning and spending more time with my group mates , i-leap started to become more fun . I really enjoyed building our displays as it's something different and unique for me ! To he honest , i found the building of the base the most difficult as the base had to be stable enough to hold up the structure , but me and my group overcome this easily as we added skewers into the base to stabilise it . I found this whole i-leap experience super fun and i would want to do something similar in the future

One challenge that I had faced was how the in-game battle will work, and where and what kind of UI I will put in my defining screenshot. I face some challenges like disagreement, I didn’t voice it out cuz most of the group were supportive but honestly I didn’t really like our idea but it’s okay as I still had fun drawing and inking the comic, I usually only draw characters and never background of items like a spaceship, this really made me go out of my comfort zone as I drew the spaceship and background. NYP has made me very interested in joining them and I also realised comic making isn’t that tedious after all.

But after the next few days we started to get more use to each other and started warming up and getting started on our projects, I really enjoyed working and creating with each other and I felt that it would be something I'd like to try again. After listening to many of our art forms projects I found that it was really creative and was executed really well, but I do have a question on how it could be more inclusive? I think could include more ways for people with disabilities to be able to participate especially the elderly as Singapore is a aging city.

The most exciting thing I learned in I-LEAP was how closely product design connects with architecture, both balance form, function, and space. A key challenge was what we would actually be making and finalising a final plan. I overcame this by gaining inspiration ideas from the architecture team and discussing certain aspects with them. I stepped outside my comfort zone by exploring three-dimensional forms and thinking about user interaction rather than just appearance and aesthetics. Feedback on material use helped refine my design thinking, as well as help from our mentor when deciding what or how we should design our product. Overall, I-LEAP deepened my understanding of design and strengthened my direction as a designer who values structure and experience.

What was the most exciting thing I learnt during ILEAP?

- the most exciting thing i learnt was how fun creating my own storyline and characters were, i enjoyed making the short animation so much as i got to plot a story and design characters with my teammates.

What challenges did i face and how did i overcome it?

- the challenges i faced was time constraints, as i had to rush the animation in order to finish the scenes on time. The way i overcome it was making everything greyscale, as then i did not need to colour it. I also simplified the characters’ designs multiple times so i could animate it easier.

How did you push out of your comfort zone?

- I’ve never animated so many scenes at once before, so it was pretty hard to push past my own procrastination and limits.

What feedback did you receive, and how did it help you?

- I received a lot of praise for my animation and drawing skills, and that motivated me to finish the project instead of give up.

How has ILEAP influenced my view of my artistic style and future goals?

- ILEAP has showed me the work needed to achieve my goals of becoming an animator, and opened my eyes to see exactly how much effort i need to put in to make it happen. It has also cleared up some confusion i had on where i will go after i graduate and has helped me.

The most exciting part about ILEAP was having the chance to be exposed to a different art form that I have tried before. I actually learnt a lot of important things about both 2D and 3D animation. In 2D animation, the timing, speed and stretch of an object can help exaggerate the movements and make it seem more realistic. Anticipation is the movement before doing an actual action such that it looks more natural. In 3D animation, i learnt more about how lighting can affect the mood of the scene and acts as an enhancer. I also learnt how to storyboard which was reallt helpful throughout the process of making the animation. I also experienced the struggle of stop motion animation. I found it challenging when the puppet just did not stay still and i had to keep adjusting it. It was very tedious but in the end we still completed our animation and it turned out pretty well.

I tink what we did well in was efficiency, we didn't take very long to create ideas anecdotes start working. We stayed making the ad 1 day earlier than expected and 1 say before everyone did. One question is probably, how can I further improve my work and how to improve. One thing we can prob improve on is communication with One another cuz were all very reserved and relied on the instructor to initial conversations.

i learnt that there are many factors to consider when we want to make a 2d animation, such as the silhouette of the characters when you design them so that the process of animating later on can be simplified in a way that the viewers are still able to differentiate the characters easily. I also learnt about how the different shots are used in different situations to emphasise on different things, such as (i forgot what its called) the shot that zooms in to the character's neck and above which indicates that the animators want the audience to focus on the character's facial expressions, the shot that shows the characters from their waist up which indicates that the animators want the audience to focus on the character's actions, and the shot that shows the character's full body+surroundings which likely indicates that the animators want the audience to focus on the surroundings. I also learnt never to draw the characters as the corner of the screen.

I really enjoyed my I-LEAP experience in Game Design. It was exciting to learn how games are built from character creation to gameplay and UI/UX design. One challenge I faced was combining different ideas as a team, but through communication and feedback, we managed to create something we were proud of. Trying out new design tools also pushed me out of my comfort zone. Overall, this experience helped me understand the creative process behind games and inspired me to keep learning more about design ❤️‍🩹

Overall it is a good experience, mixing around with talented individuals and diving into a specific art form. I enjoyed viewing the various booths but I personally think that I do not have enough time to view every art piece. The lunch was amazing but the tea break isn't that good (maybe provide tea for tea break?=) ) honestly I need more time to animate and they could teach us skills on how to make each frame more smooth, and how to include different angles , perspective, lighting and expressions to convey a meaning more clearly (like maybe teach basic anatomy?) we do not really have much time to do the electives either, maybe they can extend the program (same amount of days but give some rest days in between for groups to do personal research and self directed learning) or just not do the electives at all. Thanks to the two mentors, they did their best to make the lessons interesting and giving professional advice to each individual team:)

At first after I got the course that I was selected in, communication media to me was like talking to people about artworks and then expressing it by drawing. Such processes are coming up of a character in the story/animation thus there is a need of character design. I also learnt 3 different types of framing which are, Medium shot, long shot and a close up. These help catch viewers attention. The most important part of a animation is having a hook or a character that makes the audience sympathise with them. This makes the audience evoke feelings through the animation.

Getting the puppet to stand and balance while making it look like it was in space was really hard. We overcame it by using a lot of blue tack, wires and coloured blocks in stead of letting in uncontrollably dangle from the top. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone as the animation needed a lot of manpower. I became more sociable and asked my teammates for help as I could not move all the props one by one myself. The feedback I received made me realise there is more than one approach to the things we did and I became a more effective problem solver. After I leaps, I am more exposed to different art forms and courses. It widened my perspective of the arts and overall I really enjoyed myself.

the most exciting thing i learnt during ILEAP was learning how to 3D animate. I was shocked at first as i thought 3D animation was using digital devices and coding to create a character in 3D but when i got tonlearn about it, i found out that it was about making characters out of wire and actual materials and stopmotion.

One challenge i faced was making the character out of socks. The sock material provided was very cheap and lose and it was hard to sew with it, thus i actually struggled alot + im not goos with handiwork.

I challenged myself as an artist by volunteering to make the charaxter as im really bad at handiwork and i wanted to get more exposure to it and learn how to make things with my hands other than drawing.

I didnt receive any feedback but from ILEAP, i learned that i should expand my horizons and learn how to use different mediums instead of only sticking to whay i feel safe using

at first before joining ILEAP, i was sure i wanted to do somethjng related to art in the future, but i was very lost because i didnt know what exact course to take and what to do to lead me to my goal. However, through ILEAP, i figured out what i wanted to take in poly and what to pursue in the future.

During I-LEAP, I learn so much about how film can tell story and show emotion without needing many words. I feel amazed how pictures and sound can make people understand feeling in a deep way. One big challenge for me was to plan and finish shooting in short time, but with teamwork and help from mentors, I slowly get better. I also push myself to try new things like directing and editing, even when I feel not confident. Sometimes I make mistake, but I learn from it and grow more. My group mates give me good feedback that help me improve my idea and style. I-LEAP make me see how art film can be a strong way to express myself and share message to others. This program inspire me to keep learning and create more stories through film.

I overcame it by speaking more with them and tried to communicate more. I don't do animation that much so I pushed myself out of my comfort zone by choosing this art form. Most of the feedback my group received was quite positive and this helped me gain more confidence in myself for art. ILEAP has influenced my artistic style and future goals by teaching me more about art and helping me move further as an artist.

One thing that I found really interesting was how different light placement and the intensity of the light can heavily affect the overall mood and tone of the scene. I learnt about key lightings, playing with soft and hard shadows and also using gel paper and placing them above daylights — creating different colours

Some challenges faced throughout this experience was that my group and I initially had issues planning the storyboard as the topic of ‘dreamscapes’ was really hard to brainstorm on. In the end, as a group, we managed to seek help from our mentors and more thoroughly think deeper into the topic.

As an artist, I pushed myself out by exploring a different act of art form — filming. Art doesn’t always have to be on a piece of paper, it can be explored through acting and physical actions etc.

I recieved some feedback on how to take interesting shots which can express focus and emotions. This helps to capture the viewers focus point and show the key details. It also helped to improve my photography skills

In general, this helped me to explore different careers and helped me to explore more about the different potential careers related to art. It was really fun and enjoyable :))

One question I have is what do people actually do as architects and the insight as a career.

During the I-LEAP 3D Animation journey, we got to create storyboards, make puppets and shot our story by using stop motion animation. We got to learn the fundamentals of 3D Animation by our mentor, Mr Henry Zhuang, who also let us watch his own animation projects. He taught us any insightful knowledge about 3D Animation.

At first I thought it was going to be difficult, but throughout the journey, with help from our mentor, the process was smooth and fun.

The activity I enjoyed most was filming, getting to see our ideas come to life was very exciting.

The most challenging part was making the puppet, with the tight schedule, we had to rush our whole process. Storyboard planning, character designing, puppet making and filming. The puppet was especially hard for me because of the metal wires that we had to bend using pliers to make the structure of the doll and sew the socks to make parts of the puppet.

Through the 4 days, we also got to explore another related elective which was 2D Animation. I learnt about the "Squash and stretch" technique to make the animation more "natural" by the 2D Animation mentor, Mr Harry Zhuang. We used FlippaClip to animate a bouncing ball.

Overall, the whole journey was very fun and I learnt a lot. :)

Name: Kelly

School: Naval Base Secondary School (NBSS)

Day 1 reflection: On day 1, I felt very awkward and unsure due to having to present and introduce myself to others from other schools which was then added even more due to my misconception that 3D animation was digital 3D modelling and not stop motion but soon I got very comfortable with the group and very intrigued by my mentor’s presentation. When story boarding started I was very happy due to my group members being so cooperative and on task. (<3 huge love sending their way )

Day 2: Mr harry was also equally engaging teaching us how to make our 2D animations even more visually appealing. I found it amusing that both twins are in animation and that also led to misconceptions that mr Henry (our mentor) was the one teaching us 2D and he just knew how to teleport and magically change his hair style and outfit. We then moved on to character designing and then presenting what we did (as usual my grp is super diligent and made 4 different designs) then we had to split half our group to do prop making and character making. I was doing prop making while contemplating my life and overall it was very fun spending hours cutting card board and getting my hands sticky with glue.

Day 3: Day 3 was very rushed. We started with another round of prop making and then filming. I helped film with my group for half of the stop motion then I had to stick to supervising every once in a while because I needed to make slides. After I had rehearsals which was very stressing as I felt very under prepared. Then when I went home I edited the stop motion using sound effects and music effects and then I fixed up the slides and did the script with my buddy.

I really enjoy the Ileap programme. I learned a lot and had fun with my teammates. I learned biomimicry, inspired by nature. I also learned communication skills and collaboration skills. I learned the difference between architecture and interior design. It is a fun day for me.

The most exciting thing during this ILEAP was the making of the stop motion animation and when we had to do our elective art which was 2D animation, I really liked the stop motion animation as I have done it before one was when I was quite young and just did the animation for fun and the second time was a short 6 second animation that I had done at an ITE (I forgot which one) for a school learning journey, then for my 2D animation course was interesting as I learned different methods about animating in 2D and get to understand it even more. This ILEAP has pushed me out of my comfort zone by collaborating with students from other schools and sharing ideas.

From this 3D animation module, I learned how to create a short film and gained a better understanding of the time and effort it requires. Although I initially struggled to communicate with my teammates, we eventually worked well together and had fun. I was surprised that we used puppets instead of CGI. I'm proud of our final product, it was immersive with strong visuals, though our filming could be smoother. Overall, I’m very pleased with our teamwork and I really want to do this again but there's no more😭😭

i think the most exciting thing for me was probably getting to actually make the architecture structure itself. I got to collaborate and work together with my teammates which was fun and it was a little like arts and craft but it was still an enjoyable experience.

Personally i think i didn’t really face any challenges except the part where my group had to present for our entire art form. Firstly, we got told last minute that we had to present for the entire art form’s works and we didn’t really know what to say so we ended up just making stuff on the spot which turned out okay. Secondly, i feel like the space for the gallery walk was really small because many modules were really close together and when we were presenting on our art form, it was hard for the audience to hear us as the other art form’s presenter’s voice was overlapping with ours. We overcame this by just speaking louder i guess.

i think i pushed out of my comfort zone by interacting with people from different schools and this allowed me to hear their opinions or suggestions on something which could be more helpful than my own opinion. Seeing other eap students and their artworks, it made me also want to try more on a different medium from my usual one.

i honestly can’t really remember any feedback on my own work except for some feedback on my group’s work

i think ileap has allowed me to work more on my art skills so that i can draw better???
