I have always been a large proponent of public transportation and electric vehicles, although I would wait a few years before I bought one since the technology is evolving at such a fast rate.  
The government should not be able to put restrictions over what company's can create. The government could abuse this power and not allow the creation of product that destroy another market, therefore limiting the amount of money the government can collect.

For long trips, using public transportation such as trains can also keep down emissions. I am reluctant to make compromises past this, as negatively impacting my own life to make an unnoticeable difference in my small footprint is crazy when the majority of pollution is caused by just a few corporations.
