I couldn't help but notice the colourful icons at the top of the page for easy navigation. The organization of daily lessons and QR codes seemed intuitive. I especially liked how well Flipgrid and Peardeck integrated seamlessly with Brightspace. The interactive and self-directed Q and A activity in Peardeck was very impressive. The variety of question and feedback types will make it possible to assess in all of the KTCA categories.

-Niki Mehta

I appreciate: the pulldown/ menu all in one place for students to find each day's task always organized and easy to find

I suggest: using a similar model for organizing the assessment tasks (this might be limited by platform) so they are again easier to find (although they are organized by day # in the title)

I WAS wondering: why the course was so theory heavy at the beginning and not integrated with the upcoming units and why the reading package was so dense given the richness of other online resources and the stated challenge for ESL students. The first question was addressed at the end (physical materials might not have arrived at student's house) but as for the second, I find myself thinking about Jihad Kawas's TED: Why School Is Not Ready For Us and how else these theoretical concepts could be taught.

I'll echo Niki's positive comment about the organization of the main page with the icons along the top of the page; not only are they colourful and unique I feel like this kind of layout works better for an organizational structure to a LMS than a nested list of menus along the left side of the screen.

One question I have is about the efficacy of the "Read & Respond to one/two/three classmate posts" when it comes to truly having students engage in a dialogue with each other rather than post replies for the sake of replying. Often the question itself doesn't seem to lend to a conversation - might changing the question itself help with interactivity between students through discussion boards? I'm reminded of one of the Cultures of Thinking by Ritchhart: "Question drive thinking and learning" - being mindful of how you're asking questions can bring out deeper and more meaningful engagement from students.

I'm curious about the textbook integration into an e-learning course. She mentioned that each page has been scanned (but worried about 'copyright'??) or students could borrow the textbook to have a physical copy. Is this something that could lead to an equity issue? Why not have the whole textbook scanned or ditch it altogether? I can only imagine how challenging it would be to design a course like art for e-learning.

I loved the attention to detail and planning for this class. It's so well thought out with the theory front-loaded so students have time to get the materials that they need. With further iterations of the course, perhaps the content contained in the large PDF files could be made more accessible by putting them directly in the LMS (as responsive content).

I would have also have liked to have seen students entering their thoughts in a discussion forum instead of an editable pdf, this would make their comments assessable to classmates.

I absolutely loved the use of PearDeck in the slides.

Throughout the unit I do like that she utilized hyperlinks within the site. This engages the student to actually click on the material. She also utilizes slides with text and images, being an art course I would find that very helpful. By organizing items into Day 1, she is also keeping the students on track by labelling them in a very easy way to understand- so Day 1 - 9 instead of module which would have confused some students. She also was very considerate with the first few days of course to allow students to purchase items by making it theory heavy. In terms of planning outside and students working- I would consider having a schedule for live check ins or include live teaching links and record them for students unable to attend to watch a skill being performed by a teacher.

This was a great sample, particularly the ability to make the theoretical part of the Gr 10 Media Arts course more engaging. I thought the embedded question in the Pear Deck PPT allowed students to 'awaken' what would traditionally be the most BORING part of the course. Her creativity in designing this interactive teaching style is impressive. Additionally, her choices of artwork to display course content explained the concepts without any words (I suppose a picture is worth a thousand words). In all, this is an incredible way to bring to life the theory of a course! -J. De Jesus
