I believe this film was remade only to make money and benefit of the popularity and fame of the previous installments in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise as this remake didn't actually bring anything new to the previous films really apart from bringing it into the modern age which it really didn't benefit from and came across as a lazy attempt to appear to have done something new. For those reasons I believe it was only made to make money and not to reinvent or improve upon the original.
Ethan T Cameron

The 2007 Remake of the acclaimed Slasher Franchise saw a bold departure from the original storyline. This saw Michael Myers escape from a mental institution but that’s where the similarities ended.

1978
Michael escapes after fifteen years and returns to his childhood home, after a chance encounter he becomes obsessed with babysitter, Laurie Strode and hunts down her friends killing them over the course of Halloween night. Michael Appears to be a normal person, despite wearing a mask. However a twist in the final act depicts him as immoral.

2007
Michael single handedly breaks out of prison, killing any guard in his way. This version depicts him as a large, unstoppable caveman like figure (portrayed by a pro wrestler). He breaks out in order to hunt down his sister, Laurie Strode. In this remake Michael talks, which proved very controversial and serves as the final nail in the coffin for the reboot among fans.

So as a whole, this film is widely considered a failure. However is still enjoyed by die hard Halloween and slasher fans.

Good: Aladdin - live action, Beauty and The Beast- producing a live action of a cartoon can bring more of the new generation into Disney and it keeps the originals alive. The second (remake) of Willy Wonka and the Charlie Factory- stayed quirky but became more modern, is well known so the company definitely benefitted. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- the animation was clever and modern.
Bad: A star is Born- too overrated and hard to follow along. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- was good however I think the originals were better.

Shows how Laurie Strode’s life was changed by the events of Halloween night 1978 and how she is prepared for Michael’s inevitable return.

The decision with the studio behind this was a smart one, both a remake, and sequel, Halloween was able to be marketed at a wider audience.

Why was it remade?
The film was remade in order to improve the quality as overtime technology has developed. This has made more people in todays society want to go and watch it as it is visually pleasing. I am pretty sure most if not everyone would rather watch something that is high quality instead of low quality (and something that is editing and filmed better than not better)

Why were the cast chosen?
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper where chosen to be the cast of the remake as they are famous people the most people would recognise. This would attract their followers to this film as they are they play the main roles and they would most likely want to watch it to bond with the actors or mix in with the celebrities following.

What are the main methods of 'selling' the film?
In both of the trailers a way they sell their audience and hook them is the relationship between the main characters. This hooks the consumer as they want to know what happens to them on their journey in life as from the trailer it seems to be a rollercoaster of emotions.

What is the TA for the movie?
Personally I think the TA for the movie is 18-24 year old women (that are single) as the films show the bond between two people and most people of this category want to feel what the characters feel (so they escape into their lives).

- Matthew

I believe A Star Is Born was remade to first of all appeal to the fans of the classic film and try to make money off of their interest in the film as that would be a safe bet that it has a fanbase and audience. However I believe this film was also remade to bring the film more into the modern age and reinvent the film maybe for a more modern day audience to make it more easily accessible for people who haven't seen the original. I'm not too familiar with Bradley Cooper however I am with Lady Gaga as most people are with her being popular and well known which would obviously bring people towards the film which is probably part of the reason she was cast but also because she is known to be a great singer. In the originals trailer the audience is clearly people who enjoy romantic films, music and also drama as we can see from the trailer there's going to be a lot of that in the film both in and out of the relationship. The second trailer is much the same however the story seems to be much more centered around the main female leads rise to fame and her struggles with that and less about the struggles of their relationship.

1976- cast: Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. why were they used: I think Barbra was casted as she was known for her acting and talent which would make her great for the part and good to bring in an audience because of her known name. I don't know much about Kris however when I watched the trailer he seemed to fit the part perfectly.
Target audience: people who enjoy the genre of rock or just music in general and a love story with drama in.
I think Barbra was used to help sell the story and the insight to what could be of musician/celebrities life/love lives was a selling point.
2018-
cast: Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
why: They are both well known by their names and they both fit the original casts looks but in a modern day form. Lady Gaga struggled with her appearance at some points through critics from the media making her relate to the character however she shows her "flaws" as her perfection.
target audience: adults/teens who enjoy the romantic genre and want to see an insight into being famous and trying to love and become successful.
Remade: to bring the original back to life in a modern way and show it in a different but very similar way each time to link to current society standards and love itself, it shows morality and trying to be a success in this current decade as becoming famous is shown to become easier over time, it actually isn't and there are still a lot of issues with love, trying and self doubt. Also to earn money off an original movie which has been successful each remake.

Why was it remade?
A star is born has now been created four times over, each time seeing moderate to great success. The story line of a burnt out artist and their muse is universal to anytime and place and A Star Is Born proves that.
Why with this cast?
The cast chosen for the 2018 remake were spot on. The 2018 film mostly nods towards 1976 version featuring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson because the rock star story was the direction both films went in. Cooper and Kristofferson both have the washed up rock star look required for their character, while Gaga and Streisand both capture the youth and naivety of their character. They also both have certain usually undesirable facial features (nose) which is important to their story line.
What are the methods of selling?
(1976)
The trailer spends its first two and a half minutes convincing the viewer it is a love story with a happy ending, then chaos ensues, much like in the film. The two sides of the trailer are sort of his and hers style showing us the true inner psyche of the two main characters. This draws us in as it leaves us wondering which side wins the power struggle, good or evil?
What are the methods of selling?
(2018)
The films modern counterpart goes for more of a consistent tone throughout the trailer. It does not lean further to make us see love story any more than it does to show us the chaos. This is because firstly modern trailers tend to give away alot less about the plot. It more so tries to attach us as viewers to the characters, showing us one of their turning points as Gagas character sings on stage. This technique works well in drawing us in as modern viewers to find out how their story ends. This trailer also generally hints far less at the tragedy of the film which could mean that first time viewers who are not familiar with the story line have a better viewing experience.
Who is the target audience?
The 2018 film has a rating of 15, meaning we already know it is for a some what adult audience. The genius of this remake is so many would already be dying to see another "A Star Is Born" remake but by Lady Gaga being cast a different category of viewers and media attention shines over the film.

The 1976 one was probably remade just to revive the fanbase of the movie and probably to get more money from the idea.
The cast of the the 1976 movie was Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Both these people were really well known with large fanbases individually which would double with the creation of a star is born. The cast of the 2018 one is Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper again these two people were extremely well known in 2018 and most likely brought a large amount of fans from each persons individual fanbase together for the movie.
The main methods of selling in the 1976 version was definitely the action and romance between the characters. From the trailer, the 2018 a star is born feels like it had a more serious heartfelt tone to it and that probably resonated with the fans.
I feel like the target demographic for the 1976 and 2018 ones is teegangers - adults

1976 version seems like much more of a love story focus. The remake somewhat relates still however it seems like there was some 'reimagining' of the storyline. The 1976 version presents the story as it was intended, and it is visible in the trailer.
Although both of the films somewhat employ the same method of selling their film, a music based love story between already-known faces. However, there are some key differences in their approach, the reamke uses a sligtly different love story, and argueable the first trailer seems to portry the storylines as the original beig more female empowering. Two already established performers fall in love, the man irractic drunken behavour causes the relationship to struggle, women takes power, smashing the peev, not standing for it "well then fight for me". Whereas the remake, the man, already established performing infront of a crowd, women established "ghost writer?" , described as s"truggling artist Ally" but not comfortable on stage, man cliche pick up lines her at the bar, then fall in love, man convinces her to perform on stage "come out of her shell". Seems less prgoressive which doesnt really make sense considering the original, aswell as the demographic that the film was targeting. It was likely remade for money, like most things. High quality and cleaner anormporhi flares is a good enough reason for a reboot i guess.
The actors

Id say the target demographic for both of these films would be middle aged women.

I think when remaking the film they could have made money, but also make a modern adaptation between the two. when casting for the original between Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand
they choose them both as both being musical artists could play the role naturally as they can both relate and live the life there characters have. I think the only similarities Bradley cooper had with Kris Kristofferson was looks, how ever Lady Gaga with Barbra Streisand was they are both singer/song writers enabling them to play the role naturally. The main methods to selling the film was in the remake they use very identical shots as they do to the classic, giving fans a sense of nostalgia, with the selling points of the original they show more of the plot of the film about to artist meeting and falling in love, the original also mentions the names of the main characters, this could be used as a unique selling point as the audience may want to watch the film as it has a-list celebrities in the film. I think for the original the target audience would have been teenagers and above, and for the remake maybe 25+ as the fans of the original movie.

Well in the 76 film Barbara Streisand (well known for Fanny Brice in Funny Girl) shares the same characteristics as Ally to a certain point of view! The Reason why it was remade for the 4th time, to give it a different viewpoint for fans of the 'A Star is Born' franchise as the other 3 portrayed their version of the film, each film had a different female lead showing her struggles in life! The Target audience in the film would be Teens to Adults as it shows the many struggles in life like Drug and Alcohol addiction

I think the reason it was remade was so they could re tell the story for a newer audience as well as an audience that have seen the original. The reasoning for the cast of the remake was because the songs would’ve been written easily and since bradly cooper was directing he’d be able to have a strong say in things. I believe that in the first trailer it’s main method of selling was to start of as your classic live story but then near the end the twist becomes sudden and keeps you invested, while the newer versions trailer included the drama from the get go. -Zane

It’s a good modernised version of the 1976 version and also includes himself and other big names in the cast such as Lady Ga Ga in the film.

I think that the film was remade to give the fans of the original an updated take of the story. Bradley Cooper not only stars in the film alongside Lady Gaga but also directs it. One of the reasons they were chosen to star in the film is possibly because they are both big stars and would be able to attract new fans to see the movie. The target audience of the film would most likely be teenagers and older
as it is a love story and fans of the original as it is a remake.

I believe that "A STAR IS BORN" was remade for a fresh, modern look to do the original story justice with all the modern day equipment and technology, with remaking this film it opens it up to a whole new generation who may never have seen the original because of how old it is however they gave the new version a chance because it was "new". The movie seems to mainly be about the performing and singing careers of the main characters however a love element is implemented , meaning fans of many genres, for example, romance, drama and just fans of musical films will enjoy this film. The target audiece will be for teenagers and up, i say this because the story has a very love based canvas which most young people will not enjoy and most likely be bored. The intensity of both trailers with the contrast of crazyness to love , sells the movie.

Why was this film remade?

I think the decision to remake A Star Is Born, was self explanatory, A Star Was Born. The original was such a huge success, in part due to the wonderful casting and the phenomenal soundtrack which thrust the film to be a household name and one to be regarded as one of the best films of the decade. As explored today, films are remade to piggyback on a film’s success. The film as much as I love it, (it’s one of my favourites! I even have an original one sheet on the wall in my office) I think the film is very dated, and would not stand up to modern audience’s standards. The songs alone are too old to be enjoyed by modern viewers.

Casting

In the Original we see Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in the leading roles, a marvellous choice I just say. Streisand, a Broadway phenomenon and world famous singer at the time brought the role of Ester alive. Kristofferson too, a singer was a wonderful choice and was considered a ‘Heartthrob’ at the time of release

In the 2018 remake, I feel the casting process mirrored that of the original, in the best possible way. They saw success and copied it. A famous singer, with international appeal, and an attractive leading man.

Methods of selling the film in the trailer

Well as with all dated trailers, this one sees the synopsis of the film narrated to the viewer, a trait we no longer see practiced. But again, tonne both trailers are identical mirror images. They both show key points in the movie, such as the main characters meeting, getting married and facing their demons. The trailers both also preview a good selection of the films soundtrack. Which I think for a film like this, that relies so heavily upon music was a brilliant marketing decision.

Target audience.

Now usually I observe a recurring tactic with remakes, trying to draw in fans of the original. However in this instance the only draw to this movie was indeed the name. Whilst key points in both films were the same, the plots widely differed. I feel the remake was marketed specifically to new viewers and was pulled as far away from its predecessor as possible. I think in a way this remake tried too hard to be it’s own thing. But this film was very popular with current audiences, as was the Streisand and Garland versions. I think for this film the individuality of the remake worked well, marketing it as a NEW film rather than a remake served well.
