In the ATO you are sworn to secrecy as well as access to classified information thus needing to have security clearance. 
Some processes to be able to enter the ATO are:
  •  written applications
  •  interviews
  •  psychometric testing (standardised tests designed to assess your abilities, personality, motivations, values and interests)
  •  simulation exercises such as role plays, presentations, group exercises, in-tray exercises and case studies
  •  assessment centres, with a combination of assessment exercises, such as interview, psychometric testing and simulation exercises
  •  referee reports.
