This is a trailer for "From Hell", a film adapted from the graphic novel of the same name. The film digs into the Stephen Knight theory of The Rippers true identity. The theory put forward by Stephen Knight, is that The Ripper Murders where a cover up to hide a conspiracy theory that Prince Albert Victor had married a working class girl. One major red flag to this theory is that the main source of the conspiracy was that someone who claimed to be Walter Sickert's illegitimate son, later admitted to lying about the theory. This red flag of fake evidence helps to disprove Stephens theory.

This Trailer for a History Channel documentary goes over multiple theories including the media hysteria surrounding the murders. In the time the news papers would try to come up with the most gruesome and compelling images and headlines to sell papers based on the killings. In the clip they talk about the fake letters people would send to make headlines this is a great example off fake evidence, the fake letters caused many people to believe that some of the letters that are likely real to be fake as well.

In this clip true crime author Patricia Cornwell describes her forth coming novel on the theory of Walter Sirckert being The Ripper. This clip Patricia talks about her new book and how she has new proof of Walter Sickert's guilt. For this clip I believe it shows Patricia's confirmation bias and her need to prove her theory of the killings rather then seeking out the real truth.

This image is a scan of the "From Hell" letter one of the many letters the were though to be sent by the ripper. The "From Hell" and "Dear Boss" letters are the only two that are truly believed to be sent by The Ripper. Since they was so many of these letters sent to various news organizations, the police, and vigilantly groups themselves it lead to a lot of misleading evidence. The "From Hell" letter did however contain a piece of what was presumed one of the victims kidneys.

This is a scan of a poster trying to warn citizens to be on the look out for The Ripper. Posters like these were posted around the Whitechapel area to let people know to keep an eye out for The Ripper. These kinds of posters push the assumptions that The Ripper would be dressed in a leather apron for his killings. however since they was never any witnesses to his crimes, assuming he would be easy to detect in a leather apron helped lead misinformation.

This is an Image of one of Walter Sickert's paintings, It was originally in titled "What Shall We do for the Rent", but later became "The Camden Town Murder". This painting was taken by some as a painting of a murdered women, when it could be intercepted as a couple being worry some about their futures. I see this image as an example of perception or observation, two people can see this image in two different ways and could lead one person to believing in Walter Sickert's perceived guilt.

Post #8: Article About a Shawl Proving The Rippers Idenity

This post is purporting that new DNA evidence was taking from a shawl that was sold in an auction that was supposedly from one of The Ripper's Victims. The article discusses how the shawl that was bought at auction was worn by one of the victims and thus has to contain the DNA of both the Victim and The Ripper themselves. The problem with this theory is that even if the shawl was truly part of one of the crime scene, there is a very large leap in assuming that the only DNA found on it must be of The Ripper and the victim.

This link connects to a website dedicated to The Ripper killings, and shows all of the possible Ripper suspects. This website helps illustrate the difficulty putting forth any theory on any one suspect. Since there are so many different theories and suspects to this day, its near impossible to narrow down to one without a true confession or DNA which has now been lost to time. I see this as a good example of a red herring as there are so many different theories we can't narrow down to just one.

This article goes on another Ripper historians theory about another possible victim no one looks towards for evidence. In the article it talks about how Patricia Cornwell called the case closed when she accused and provided some evidence claiming Walter Sickert was The Ripper. However many others have come forward with different theories or evidence saying otherwise. I see this with lots of proof by verbosity that so many people believe one way or another based on the amount of evidence to point one way or another.
