BERTIE LEWIS - REVIEW

IN WHAT WAYS HAS THE BAND DEVELOPED?
The group has developed by developing more of a chemistry with eachother, by playing with one another week in week we've developed more of a musical understanding of eachother's strengths, weaknesses and as a result of this the songs we've composed have become tighter and more structurally organised.

HOW HAVE YOU CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT?
I believe the way I have contributed to the development is by adding a differentiation to the music instrumentally, most songs have the keyboard playing the chords that make up the song. I would then play an improvised riff (or solo) to add variation and more excitement than just a recurring chord pattern.

WHAT WILL YOU DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME?

HOW DO EACH SONG YOU WROTE MIRROR A DECADE OF MUSIC?
(Love Me Love Me) - this song has a reggae (60s) inspired strumming pattern on the guitar (the chord being played once every beat then quickly being cut off), also the same pattern is played on the keyboard. The drums also feature heavy use of the high hat which is funk (60s) inspired. I then also go off and improvise with funk guitar strumming patterns and chords.
(I Can Fly) -
(Champion) - for this song I use a distorted guitar sound, I alternate between playing the root chords played by Luke (in G minor) in power chords and improvising solos in G minor. The tone and sound I was going for was inspired by the Guns n Roses guitar sound achieved by guitarist Slash in the 80s.

HOW DO YOU FEEL THE PERFORMANCE WENT? I think the performance went well, for the two songs I performed, on my part there was minimal slip ups. I think the cover I played (I Want You Back - Jackson 5) went better than the original I played (I Can Fly) as the guitar tone I achieved on the amp was closer to how I wanted it to be.

DID THE PERFORMANCE REFLECT THE BAND'S DEVELOPMENT?

For the blues song,
I played left hand block chords and bass notes to create a variation effect for a contrast. I played blues scales and jazz licks in the left hand to make a blues feel.

The bass notes and chords used in the left hand included:
C, D, E flat, F, F sharp, G, A, A sharp, C7, C

I messed around with the different jazz licks including C7 licks and linking sections. This gave the piano part the unique style to contrast the guitars part.
