There are many responsibilities that being a teacher comes with. Teaching equity, keeping an open-mind when meeting every student and not expecting anything from your students are just a few examples of the responsibilities that teachers have. Teachers are in charge of encouraging them to learn and keep interest in what is being presented in class. Teachers should listen to their students because in doing so the students could be telling the teacher just what exactly it is that they do or do not understand. Not only do teachers have educational responsibilities, but they also have responsibilities of creating responsible individuals that could help others. As Spring states in his book titled as American Education, “A current goal of schooling is educating students to compete in a global labor market” (Spring, 2016, p. 89). Teachers not only have to fill their students with knowledge, but they must shape students into fine adults who help form the world.

Learning should be fun and the new information should be presented to students with their interests in mind. Teacher's teach students with the guidelines of the standardized test in mind. As the article Testing in Dystopia mentions, "Testing is killing education." Too often teachers are focused on what the state is demanding to be taught in order to pass the Standardized Test rather than teaching students what they are interested in and how to teach character education (Spring, 2016, p.45). As well as teaching students in a fun manner, teaching students how to become respectful adults is important as well. Not all the time in a school building should be spent with the teacher lecturing and the students listening, students also need to be aware of what is expected of them later in life and how to accomplish goals to becoming a successful citizen.

"Children have a right to education in their own language and according to cultural practices" (Spring, 2016, p.203). Teachers are responsible for each and every student to feel comfortable in the classroom environment and teachers should be knowledgeable about how to incorporate everyone within the classroom environment. "Everyone has a right to an education using the medium of their mother tongue" (Spring, 2016, p.202). Including home languages within the classroom could ensure the classroom having a safe environment which allows students to feel comfortable speaking and participating within the classroom. It is also important to communicate to your students and listen to what they have to say. Teachers should take a step back from being the sole discussion leader and allow students to talk about what exactly is bothering them or what they may or may not understand. Listening to what the students have to say helps the teacher know how to manage their classroom and plan each lesson.

Schooling should be a safe and inviting place for students. It is important for teachers to include students' life in the curriculum as well as make them feel important and worth studying (Christensen, 2012). It is important for students to feel as though their lives and beliefs matter to ensure their participation in the classroom. Teachers' need to be aware of how to incorporate their students lives into the classroom as well as they need to know how ensure a safe environment. An environment that does not push the students away from their teachers and ask someone else to discipline them, but rather an environment where the teacher handles the problem in a respectful, loving manner. The student should not feel singled out and then ostracized because they are different or they are struggling. Rather, their differences deserve to be acknowledged and sincerely cared about through their teacher in the classroom.

All my future students are unique in their own way and they bring with them different culture backgrounds (Weistein, 2014, p. 25). It is important for teachers to be knowledgeable about every student's cultural background that is within their classroom so that the know how to shape the lesson around their learning. In order for many students to learn the lesson needs to be interesting and related to their life or experiences. Without the prior knowledge of every student, teachers will plan a lesson that will fall flat and leave children with not retaining all of the information that is presented. If teachers are not aware of how to present the information to students that are of other cultural backgrounds, it could cause an issue in the relationship between the teacher and the student because there is not a connection that brings the teacher and the student closer as individuals.

Although "it is through school boards that the public is supposed to influence school curricula", I find it unfair to students to tell them what they are going to learn rather than to let the students have a say in what they are learning (Spring, 2016, p. 3). It is beneficial to the students learning as well as to the teacher teaching daily to these students, to allow them to have say in what they are learning. If students have a say in what they are learning it ensures interest and the want to learn more and more information. Also the idea of relating topics to their life encourages children to want to learn more and maybe even build a closer bond with that teacher because they feel as though that what they have gone through in their life matters not only to them, but to the adult that influences them daily.

"We were insatiably curious about subjects we had once thought dull, like mathematics"(Meier, 2018). When I view myself as a learner and work along with the students, it will encourage the students to view me as someone equal to them rather than feel less than when compared to me. It is important for my students to know that I am in control of the classroom. but someone who can also listen and discuss with the students about problems that they may encounter in life outside of school. During our reading last semester we talked a lot about teaching in a culturally relevant manner, which is defined as teaching in a way “that empowers students intellectually, socially, emotionally, and politically using cultural referents to impart knowledge, skills, and attitudes” (Ladson-Billings, 1994, p. 16-17). The idea of teaching students with their culture in mind allows the students to maintain interest in the information being presented as well as encourage them to feel comfortable around the teacher and in the school setting.

The community and family is very important to how the teacher can teach their lessons to allow the lessons to get to each of their students. "To be in touch with the community, one has to enter into the physical places where the students live, and work to be invited into the emotion-laden spaces the youth inhabit" (Emdin, 2014, p. 21). Teachers need to take time to get to know their students family as well as venture around the community, so that the teachers are able to teach the lesson to their students that will maintain their interest and keep them focused within the lesson. Not only is it important to learn about the family and the community for teaching purposes, but for relationships between the teachers and students also. The teacher will learn the behaviors that are normal for that community and how
to respond to such behaviors that they may deem unacceptable.

Collaboration is a key factor in the classroom in many ways. It encourages students to develop safe relationships as well as allowing the teacher to encourage learning by developing interesting lessons. It is important for teachers to include relate-able information in their lesson for the diverse students in their classroom. The classrooms that were very interesting to students and interesting for them to learn in includes different "lessons on how multicultural education invites students to engage with real social issues" (Au, 2008/2009). Multicultural Education encourages every student to feel important and welcomed in the classroom because it allows the social issues to be discussed in a safe place.

Being a teacher activist is very important and it is very significant for a teacher to keep in mind that "the courage and dedication of the students involved in struggles to make education more meaningful" is an important factor that teachers need to think about before they do something that they deem significant through the knowledge that they have (Bigelow, 2012). Teachers and students need to have a relationship with each other so that they know what is important and what is not. it is significant to build safe relationships so that the students feel as though it is okay to share anything with their teacher so that they can share the information that may be bothering the student within the education system.
