Mostly all the graduates must also have appropriate relevant knowledge, practical experience, soft skills, more commitment and work focus as all this positive attitude or characteristic would allow them to compete in job market. Student representatives

Situation:
Covid-19 pandemic has seen many countries in hardship to grapple with the outbreak. In order to contain the disease, Malaysia has decided to impose the Movement Control Order (MCO) to ensure social distancing among the members of public. This has unavoidably affected the operations of schools and universities nationwide, and classes have been forced to be conducted via online platform. For universities, one of the problems that arises is the format for conducting the final examinations. While a change in the conventional sit-down test is expected, there has been concern about the validity in its implementation due to several reasons. To some extent, there are views which think that quality of education need not be compromised if the situation has turned out to be manageable. With the latest rescheduling of academic calendar, all the implications of the alternative in exam format must be considered and prompt decision has to be made so that members of the university community can be prepared to face the challenge.

Part 1: Discussion
(a) Online method
- Implementation
E-learning/Customised exam software/Assignment/Quiz

- Reasons
Protect members in university community

(b) Pen & Paper
- Implementation
If students are allowed to return to campus (MCO lifted),
Good hygiene practice in exam hall / in person.
Split class into few groups to take exam at different session with different set of question paper.

Part 2: Negotiation
Perspectives from each role

- Risk with sit-down test

- Issues with online method
(a) Fraudulence among test takers
(b) Unequal accessibility on Internet connection
(c) Possible online technical issue (e.g. system breakdown)

- Solution to the above issues Replacement of final exam with assignment-based approach
Flexible assessment to the students

Part 3: Consensus
Reach an agreement.
