This book was about a boy who was separated from his family during the holocaust, and sent to a concentration camp. He brought the harmonica his father had given him, and played every night for commandment at the camp and other prisoners who were losing hope. I liked this book because I enjoy learning about WWII and the hardships people suffered during the war. This book would be interesting to kids who like history, and more specifically the Holocaust. I could use this book to teach students how the lives of Jewish people drastically changed during the Holocaust

It talked about how shoes were important, the sky, birds, and most importantly how important people are including the person reading the book. This book would be interesting to kids who need some encouragement. It teaches students that everyone is important despite their differences. I could use this book to teach my students that although everyone is different, we are all important.

This book is about a girl named Rachel who is very busy with work and other things. Rachel's younger sister Beth is stubborn, independent, mildly retarded, and a 38 year old woman. Rachel agrees to take time out of her busy and mostly empty life to ride the buses with her sister. Beth, who lives alone in an assisted living facility, rides the buses in her mid-sized Pennsylvania city from dawn to dusk everyday except Sunday (no runs). This book would be interesting for students to understand the everyday problems that people struggle with. I could use this book to teach students that everybody is different, and sometimes It is okay to take a break from a strict schedule to spend time with family and friends.

Joe is white and John Henry is black, and in the South in 1964, that means John Henry isn't allowed to do everything his best friend is. Then a law is passed that forbids segregation and opens the town pool to everyone. Joe and John Henry are so excited they race each other there...only to discover that it takes more than a new law to change people's hearts. This book would be a good book to read to students while learning about segregation and civil rights.

The zoo keepers were ordered to poison all of the large animals at the zoo because if a bomb hit they were afraid the animals would terrorize the community. Gatsby ends up getting killed at the end of the book and no one comes to his funeral. After all of the lavish parties that everyone loved attending, no one would attend Gatsby's funeral.

This book is about a student named Nick who is in fifth grade, and it looks like his days as a troublemaker are over. Everyone knows that Mrs. Granger, the language arts teacher, has X-ray vision, and nobody gets away with anything in her classroom. To make matters worse, she's also a fanatic about the dictionary, which is hopelessly boring to Nick. But when Nick learns an interesting tidbit about words and where they come from, it inspires his greatest plan yet: to invent a new word. From now on, a pen is no longer a pen -- it's a frindle. This book is great book for upper elementary and middle school students to connect and relate too.

After a lifetime of bottling up his magical powers, Harry finally feels like a normal kid. But even within the Wizarding community, he is special. He is the boy who lived: the only person to have ever survived a killing curse inflicted by the evil Lord Voldemort, who launched a brutal takeover of the Wizarding world, only to vanish after failing to kill Harry.
