Their participation was based on having male permission. 
However, Fanon was aware of the inter-ethnic violence that could be caused by prioritising one form of ‘Black’ identity over the other.

Fanon argued there was more than one type of black, Cesaire ignored other black identities. In terms of race, physical characteristics do not determine the person. However, Fanon did have essentialist views on gender as he saw all the women the same, women's actions were dependent on mans opinion. Fanon also expressed his fear that through the non-specific identification of people-of-colour a loss of identity may arise.
