Gaps, Critical Issues, and Partnerships

Based on the Needs Assessment conducted at Giddens Elementary, gaps have currently been identified in the areas of academic achievement, inequity and inequality, and behavior support. Closing these gaps would require an approach that highlights inclusive practices that prioritize every student. When a school district is able to create partnerships with community members to address these issues, they are creating a more equitable experience for students to thrive on social, emotional, and academic levels.

A Focus on Critical Issues

Giddens Elementary has identified three critical issues that are interconnected. Leander ISD is experiencing rapid population growth, resulting in more diverse student bodies that do not reflect the population of teachers and staff. This can lead to an increased need for diversity training for staff. The increased population growth is contributing to an increase in the cost of living, which makes it more difficult for teachers to afford living in the community they teach in. Leander ISD is committed to focusing on funding, teacher salaries, and employment retention to ensure students are able to build long-term relationships with the educators in their communities.
