Just like other blueberry farms, we compete on an equal playing field: no cheating, no bribes. We strive to create a community with our food, so, come to our farms and buy some berries!

Perfect Competition is a market structure that has equal information about their products market, in this case, the blueberry market. Blueberries are all grown the same. On top of that, there are minimal barriers to starting in the market and there are countless buyers and sellers.

What are the Benefits of a Perfect Competition Market?

The main benefits of a Perfect Competition Market is that anyone can easily enter and exit the market, and knowledge is shared equally between all producers.
If you were to enter the blueberry market, all you would need to do is learn about farming and your product, lets say blueberries, and either join an entry level job or invest in your own land and tools. It could start small and local and slowly grow!
Another benefit of the market is that knowledge between each producer is equal. Because produce doesn't have much variation, information about the market and methods of production are readily available. This prevents a monopoly of blueberries from forming and keeps prices low.

What are the Drawbacks of a Perfect Competition Market?

A drawback of a Perfect Competition Market is that selling above equilibrium doesn't work very well. This is because of the sheer volume of sellers. Other sellers will provide cheaper blueberries, and since blueberries don't change between producers, customers will go with the cheaper option. Another drawback is that innovation is not encouraged, and most producers will not change the way things are produced and processed.

An example of selling above equilibrium is if you, a customer, walked through an aisle of blueberries. They all look the same, but there is one brand that is selling for $6 instead of $4 like the rest. You would most likely buy any other brand instead of the $6 one.
A real world example of little to no innovation in a perfect competition market is that there is no information regarding new farming techniques or tools to cultivate the produce. Since farmers are offered money by the government, there is minimal incentive to innovate and make production more efficient.
