Standards 8 and 9 support the other standards as they take the core domains and move them to an even more successful school learning environment. For example, with strong curriculum and a caring environment students may learn a lot about writing. Engaging community partners, like bringing authors to speak to students or inviting parents who use writing in their careers can bring that learning to an even higher level. Similarly, teachers can bring an equity and culturally responsive lens into a lesson. To take the next step and support that initiative even more, school leaders can allocate funds for enhancing classroom and school libraries with books that support a culturally responsive vision. Standards 8 and 9 both take powerful practices and give school leaders the opportunity to make them even stronger.

Build trust and being approachable, i.e., being accessible, welcoming, respectful, coffee chats, principal chats
Communicate regularly and with transparency in community, i.e., newsletters, social media, meetings
Foster collaborative relationships, i.e., family involvement, community
Utilize community to provide support and resources to increase support to all students and families, i.e., tutoring, family counseling, parenting classes, mental health classes, providing access for parents in multiple languages, community mentors teaching financial literacy, soft skills, conflict resolution; career and job fairs
Maintain community presence at local events, i.e., festivals, town halls meetings, build relationships with local leaders and political leaders
