She likely struggles with PTSD from Lyme disease and has difficult time facing some stimuli that makes her FEEL sick again, even though she isn't. Certain songs, smells, places, temperatures, etc. can trigger all sorts of tough symptoms. But Melody suggested The Body Remembers, which explains how the body can remember what the brain does not. Emma read through that book in three days. Now she does a weekly social media post about what she's learned. It really helped her this year. Orchestra director turns into therapist. Way to see the real need!

Rather than dwelling on all that is different and difficult in our program this year, she has embraced her cart, her role, and her students. This week, she helped me to find some perspective that I was deeply seeking. Her comment that resonated the most with me was, "We have such long and successful careers in education ahead of us. I, for one, will not allow this one crazy year and time in life to overwhelm me so much that it burns out that light and future."
