(100-250 words)

Biniant'aats'ozi is how you say August in Navajo. The word broken down means skinny plants based off of the navajo teacher, Mrs.Ray's knowledge.

It’s called this because many of the crops begin to ripen during this month and the Navajo people would begin to harvest the early crops." During this time when corn is being harvested, they are seperated by color to determine their usage. White corn goes to the east to be used for prayer, blue corn goes to the south to be used for eating, yellow corn goes to the west to be used for special cakes & prayer, black corn (rare corn) is put to the north and is used for ceromony.

At the beginning of the year our class was in need to know what it was like to be a part of a newsletter, what it took to write a newsletter and how it all happened. We need an example of how we should work. So our teacher, Ms. Yazzie said we should go to the Navajo Times office to research what it was like. We also went to the monument & museum for the purpose of learning more about our history.

The Navajo Time office tour was very nice, it gave us lots of information about how the office should be splayed out and how the process leading up to the paper being shipped off works. As they went from person to person the tour guide told us exactly what each person does and what their step in the process is. They describe their job in as much detail as they could and that will be very helpful in the future.

The monument was very peaceful and it was grand. The whole place was quiet and we also tried to be quiet in order to be respectful. There were several statues and areas dedicated to certain people. Such as the Navajo Code Talkers statue, it gave homage to the brave men who went to WW2 and used our language to play a major role in the war. It finally gave them the honor they deserved after many many years. There was also an area dedicated to the soldiers we lost in battle, the wall of names.

The museum was also very cool, I have been to the museum before and a certain area was closed off. The area with the screens was closed off, I assume that the exhibit was open a little after my visit. It was cool to have a whole section dedicated to water, a very important part of our lives. It also has to do with a current problem, it has always been a problem but it has always been evident in my life.

Volleyball Season Recap (1st Article; August 2022)

The lady Grizzlies started off their practice on the second week of school. Then they started off their season on Thursday, September 8 at Seligman. They lost this game, with the set score being 0-3, but as it was most of the girls first ever volleyball game they did amazing, and as I am the team manager I was at the game. It was so energetic, we were taught some cheers as the game was going on and we put our whole heart into the cheering. Ex-team member Kailey Bravo was leading the cheering on the bench and really put lots of effort into her cheering. After Seligman the team stayed the night in Flagstaff then travelled to Window Rock to participate in their fighting scout’s annual volleyball tournament. The girls did not make it far in the tournament losing their first game to Ganado High school. Next game was at Ask Fork on Tuesday, September 13. They lost this game, the set score being 0-3. Then on September 15 they played in Ferdonia and it was a good game, the set score being 0-3 though. The girls then travelled to St.Micheals in a double header but with a set score of 0-3 both games. Williams was their next game with another set score of 0-3. El Capitan was their next game on Wednesday, September 21 at home. This game was another L, with the set score being 0-3. The girls then travelled to Navajo Mountain in an eventful game with the girls being so close to winning a set, 22 – 25 in the first set but in the end the set score was 0 – 3. The team then had a home game with Rock Point, the set score also being 0 – 3. Then the girls left early morning on Friday, October 7, to leave for Joseph city. Joseph City was hosting a tournament. At this tournament many of the girls made very good improvement and had a great time. On the second day they played Cibique, and again had a great game with many of the girls many great achievements. I think the energy at this game matches the energy at Seligman, at the end of the match everyone was cheering and really into the game. But the lady Grizzlies ultimately lost this game. The girls rested for a day before going off to BASE in Flagstaff on Monday, October 10. They played in a double header, with the set score being 0 – 3. Their latest game was at Red Mesa, with this game also being a double header. The first game the girls weren’t at their best but in the second game the energy was high and the girls got a good rally in. Thanks to Red Mesa fans for showing their support for our team and cheering us on. Ultimately the ladies still had a set score of 0 – 3. The girls always tried their best and will continue to do so, please show your support for your Lady Grizzlies volleyball team!! Go Grizzlies!!

Next game is @ home against Grand Canyon.
