As you can see, there are so many wonderful people already in your corner!
I'm attaching a favorite quote... the heart of what we do always comes back to the relationships we build. These words below always help center me- and I hope they are meaningful for you too.
Don't forget to take care of you too... it's easy to get caught up in your neverending to- do lists, but good self-care (& self-awareness of what you/ your body needs)is the only way to stay healthy and happy for you and your students!
I'm here if you need anything! ~Kerry Cowell, Dale Street Librarian & K-12 Library Department Head ❤️📚

If you are switching districts or just moved to MA, you won't be disappointed! There is already loads of good advice here, so I would just say, be sure to take care of yourself. The first year of teaching, or teaching in a new district, is always a wonderful whirlwind. Breath, SLEEP, laugh at the inevitable missteps, and ask for help. One of the things I've learned is that there is always something to learn from your fellow teachers, from administrators, from students, and from parents. If you are willing to listen, you can learn so much this first year (and after!). And it helps to find someone to listen to you -- because there is so much to reflect on in this profession. I bet you'll do a great job this year!
- Anne Farrahar, Memorial Library Teacher

In your first year, you'll work so hard that your hair will hurt, but you'll learn SO much. Sometimes what you learn will be about academic stuff, bur surprisingly, sometimes what you learn will be about stuff you never thought about. Tying a young student's shoe is a good way to start a conversation. Greeting students in the hallway often sponsors good scholarship in the classroom. Wearing silly Halloween earrings can make learning fun.

Oh, and wonder. Don't forget to encourage students to wonder about things BIG and small. Everyday. It's how learning becomes wisdom.

The community of Medfield is a special place with incredible people. A quote that has stuck with me is "What a teacher is, is more important than what he teaches." When you are feeling overwhelmed think of that! Enjoy and let yourself HAVE FUN!

Nicole Sheehan
Grade 3
Wheelock

One of my favorite things about Medfield is everyone's willingness to help others and work together. Also, don't be afraid to share your strengths. Lastly, enjoy the kids every day- they're the best part of the job. Best wishes!

Jillian Shaw- Grade 8 Science at Blake

Welcome to Medfield! My name is Kelly Campbell and I am the Assistant Principal at Blake Middle School. Medfield is a truly special place and I am thrilled to be entering my 9th year here. Some words of advice. . . just smile and that will make most things better, be curious, think of behavior as a way for students to tell you what they need, find the helpers -- there are so many in Medfield, as we make mistakes as adults we are showing children that mistakes are part of the process, try not to worry about all the tiny details and focus on showing kids that you are glad to be with them. Most importantly, life happens while you are doing this job-- let us know how we can support you and always make you and your family a priority! Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hi there. I'm Kara Gelormini, Reading Specialist at Blake Middle School and I'm going to lead with that piece of advice as it was one of the best things I did for myself when I started in Medfield several years ago. Being an educator can be overwhelming at times - there's always something else you could be doing, but it's important to take some downtime for yourself, chat with others, breathe, laugh. I found this respite from the day at lunch, and got to know my colleagues in a way I wouldn't have otherwise. You've landed in a great place. Looking forward to meeting you,

You have joined a really wonderful team of educators who are dedicated to their students and are really collaborative with their peers. My best advice for you in the first few weeks is to ask whenever you have a question. There is no limit. You will have many. You will find a whole host of people willing to answer the question, chip in and help, and/ or point you in the right direction. For the really tough stuff, head to the front office secretaries. They know it all!
Deb Manning, 7th grade social studies

Welcome to our community!! My best advice is to be proactive in all communication - make sure to reach out to students with concerns and seek help and advice from guidance. Also I always try to reach out to parents before a problem arises...if my year is going well, I send an email to parents stating how thankful I am for the opportunity to have their children this year, gets a great response. Lastly, difficult conversations are better on the phone or in person, not email

Medfield Public Schools is a wonderful place to work. I am entering my 3rd year in this system and continue to learn each day - from other teachers, administrators, students, parents, and others in the community. Everyone works very hard and supports one another. Blake is incredibly collaborative and the work is so rewarding. I hope you will love it here as much as I do!! If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. Welcome!

Kristin Corcoran,
School Psychologist
Blake Middle School
