1.)The criteria that should be used to hire officers today should be based on their experience in the past and communication/physical skills. A good officer must learn to communicate well with different groups to people which will make negotiating and solving problems easier.

2.) The importance of a uniform is to confirm the identity of the officer or the country they work for. Dress may interfere with a person's ability to do a job because many people have negative relationships with other counties around them. This can lead to further arguing or lack of respect.

3.)Roles the RCMP should have in the future may include: enforcing federal laws and working with different religious groups to deal with their concerns.

The North West Mounted Police or NWMP was created in 1873. The U.S. Calvary wore blue uniforms to distinguish them from their American counterparts (they wore bright red uniforms). Around 1874 hundreds of NWMP officers headed west. They went all over the region and built a number of forts in which they would live in.

In the western U.S during the 1800's, Americans experienced a lot of conflict between the settlers and Native Americans. The battles these two groups participated in were called the "Indian Wars." The NWMP was credited of preventing large-scale violence and did so by creating friendships with the First Nations people, building forts and controlling the whisky trade.
