The reorganization of agriculture took place when the communists took power. They took away all the land from the landowners and divided it among landless farm families. The government forced peasants to pool their land, tools, and labor to form collective farms. A collective farm was were peasants worked for the state and received a share of the harvest. Then the government got the rest of the harvest.

The Cultural Revolution

The cultural revolution is where there was a power struggle and there were rivals and factions. Mao urged the young people to root out "capitalist roaders". Students and young factory workers responded to this by organizing a group called the Red Guards. They traveled around the China tacking government officials and others who did not fully support the chairman. Capitalism is where productions are owned and operated by individuals for profits.

Mao's Revolutionary Goals

The three revolutionary goals that Mao proclaimed was that he promised a better life for the poor. He also called for development of a modern economy. The last one was that he pledged to restore China's position as a major world power. There were some obstacles that prevented these goals from happening like China's population needed to be fed, clothed, housed, and educated. The geography was also messed up preventing them to be able to use a lot of land for food. China also lacked the technology to be able to industrialize quickly.
