Before coining the notion of interlanguage, contrastive analysts had said second language learner`s language was formed only by transfer from the native language. However, these findings only relied on utterances instead of referring to the systematically investigated data so the findings wre not reliable.

Interlanguage
This term is different from L1 and L2, but closely connected to both languages. Learners use interlanguage unconciously and they may not aware of this process. I understood this process like this: Imagine: We want to go up to the second or third floor and we do it by stairs step-by-step, without stairs we can not do or doing it is very difficult. In this case, the point, which we are standing, is Native Language. Last point( which we want to go) is Target Language. The stairs in the middle, will be help of NL to achive TL. During learning TL, we may use structures or grammar rules of NL. Also, we might utilize TL’s one rule for many conditions incorrectly. ( I sweepped the house) During learning period, the Target language with omission of NL and also using TL wrongly is INTERLANGUAGE.

Interlanguage is viewed differently from both NL nad TL but linked them in the view of learners. Sometimes interlanguage causes errors if learners overgeneralize the grammar rules (e.g. in past simple form of verbs: worked, liked, drinked, and goed).

Selinker says fossilization is inevitable because it is a natural process in cerebral lateralization but some argue that fossilization isn`t an inevitable process . Those researchers suggest if the learner`s need is hard enough he will continue learning until he reaches the native speaker`s indistinguishable speech.

Interlaguage is used by those who are learning a second language or any foreign language as one of the type of linguistic systems.Interlanguage paragmatics helps TL learners to understand the words,phrases and language patterns in their second language.In speech the words and combinations of the first and second languages do not always correspond to each other in translation and meaning.Selenker showed us that every language has a way of making and using.And he also pointed out that TL and NL also includes complex and unitary combinations but they are rule-governed.

So, interlanguage is realized a common language used by speakers of different language. This linguistic system express not just phonology morphology and syntak, but also the lexical, pragmatic and discourse levels of that. Interlanguage pragmatics is the study of the ways non-native speakers acquire, comprehend and use linguistic patterns or speech acts in a second language.
