The Form & Function in Architecture

“Form ever follows function.” – Louis Sullivan

The element of art plays a big role in architecture, it refers not only to the shape, but also to the length, width, and depth of an art. In line with this, the form and function are also important in a way that without these two parts, the architecture would not be complete and people who would want to admire it would not be able to appreciate it more. The form of an architecture always gives the first impression, that is why it is important to always consider this. While on the other hand, the function is the things you do inside that building that makes people want to come back to the place.

WHY does the Tower Lean?

When the construction began, the soft surface where the tower is located contained a shifting soil, which began to make the tower lean. Over the centuries, it became clear that the tower was literally falling at a slow pace per year. Today, the tower is five meters off perpendicular.

Architects and engineers tried to fix the problem. However, it just kept leaning.

In architecture, there are always two forms that are always considered. These are the interior & exterior. When a person goes inside the tower, there is nothing really exciting about it because it is only a bell tower that brings a person up to the top to sound the bell. However, the exterior is something to be amazed about. The exterior is made up of solid rocks that in the midst of collapsing, the rocks still stick together. Also, there are beams that support the tower and it is made up of ionic columns.

Furthermore, the function of the tower was to be the bell tower of nearby churches. The reason why the city of Pisa decided to build a tower is because to show how important the city is. The people also built other religious buildings such as cathedrals, a cemetery and a lot more. Today, the leaning tower is not as often used as before. Wherein, it became a tourist spot to earn money.
