Look for an advertisement—either print or digital—that you personally find hard to look at. This could be due to poor design, overwhelming elements, confusing layout, bad color choices, or disturbing imagery.

The advertisement is visually striking but difficult to look at, mainly because the red stain resembles blood, which may be disturbing or triggering to some viewers, particularly women. While the minimalist design is clean and creative, it leans too far into ambiguity, making the message unclear and the product’s purpose hard to grasp. The text is small and blends into the background, making it difficult to read, and the Wet Ones logo, though present, is not prominent enough to reinforce brand awareness.

The ad’s concept—turning a mess into a piece of art—is clever and unconventional, but it may not resonate with a broad audience. The use of a used wipe, instead of presenting the product as clean and refreshing, is unusual for hygiene advertising and could be off-putting. Additionally, the choice of red and white, while bold, causes the text to look like a smudge and may unintentionally suggest themes like menstruation, which could confuse or alienate the audience.

While the ad does catch attention and has artistic value, it fails to clearly demonstrate how the product works or highlight its benefits. The messaging could be misinterpreted, and overall, the design might be too narrow and abstract for its intended marketing purpose.

To improve the ad, the text should be made more readable by increasing the font size and using higher contrast typography. The red stain could be replaced with something less intense, such as a blue or food-related stain, to avoid triggering discomfort. A clearer, more relatable tagline should be added to better communicate the product’s use and value. While the minimalist style is appreciated, it needs to be balanced with clarity and stronger product visibility to make the ad more effective and inclusive

This ad for the Bachelor of Science in Social Work of CASSED lacks cohesion in both design and messaging. The group photo feels awkwardly cropped, with several faces cut off and misaligned from the layout. It doesn’t capture the warmth or emotional connection expected from a course centered on human interaction. The tagline, “Change Lives, Make an Impact: Embark on a Journey of Human Connection” reads like generic AI-generated text. It sounds polished, but doesn’t connect to the photo or leave a strong impression. Additionally, the header text overlaps and spills beyond the design frame, making it feel cluttered and hard to read. The overall execution is visually weak and emotionally detached. A cleaner layout, more thoughtful photo choice, and a tagline with more authenticity and relevance to the course could greatly improve its effectiveness.

GROUP 4

The now-deleted advertisement poster for Systems Plus College Foundation is a prime example of misguided marketing strategies that prioritize engagement over ethical and artistic integrity. The poster’s unsettling visual quality, characterized by a flat, monotonous blue palette and its AI-generated qualities, purposely seemed to be a deliberate attempt at “rage bait” rather than a genuine effort to promote the institution effectively. This approach is further compounded by the alteration of the school logo, which appeared to be a deceptive tactic rather than a creative enhancement.

It is particularly ironic that an institution dedicated to computer education would choose to rely on AI-generated marketing, especially when the original design was human-made. This decision raises ethical concerns, as the AI recreation appropriates the distinctive style of Studio Ghibli, a move that contradicts the sentiments of its co-founder, Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki has vocally criticized AI-generated animation, describing it as “an insult to life itself” and stressing the irreplaceable value of human emotion and hand-drawn artistry. By mimicking Ghibli’s style, the advertisement not only disregards artistic integrity but also infringes on intellectual property rights.

More than the advertisement being AI-generated, the visual experience of the poster is marred by a lack of contrast and a desaturated color palette, resulting in elements that blend together and appear flat. This poor application of design principles creates an unengaging and visually unstimulating image that is challenging to process effectively. Such a design would likely be reevaluated and revised by a human creative, highlighting the shortcomings of relying solely on AI for marketing purposes.

Moving forward from this, no improvements and enhancements will justify the use of the AI-generated material, regardless of the intent. Systems Plus College Foundation must maximize its human resources instead—and compensate their creatives well—to accomplish its marketing goals.

The advertisement is difficult to read due to the excessive use of different fonts, which makes it hard for viewers to focus and understand the message quickly. As an eatery, the design fails to immediately communicate that it is a food-related business. Moreover, it lacks the visual elements like food icons and imagery that could instantly identify it as a food stall or restaurant.

Additionally, the overall layout and visual hierarchy are somehow confusing; the design appears to be unstructured and cluttered, making it what the people are supposed to focus on first. There is no clear focal point or standout message, and even the brand name is barely visible due to the poor contrast color between the green font and the cream-yellow background. This makes it easy to be overlooked, especially from a distance.

This ad misses the mark of being readable and visually appealing. A better color contrast, clearer focus, consistent use of fonts, including proper imagery and icons would significantly improve this ad.
