Waverly Place is the street (or alleyway) which Waverly Jong and her family live on and which she is named after. Waverly and her family live in a small, two bedroom apartment above a Chinese bakery that specializes in dim sum and steamed pastries. On one end of the street is a small playground. It is at this playground where Waverly Jong learns to play chess better. Further down the street lays Ping Yuen Fish Market, which sells fish, turtles, crabs, and more. At the corner of the street is Hong Sing's which is a cafe that tourists dare not to go to due to its menus being printed in Chinese. This street also contains the First Chinese Baptist church.

The church is the first place Suyuan (June's mother) joined after arriving in America from China. The people at the church helped her adapt and settle into America, and this Church is also where she found the current members of the new Joy Luck Club, where they play mahjong for fun and money. Suyuan met An-Mei Hsu, Ying-ying, and Lindo there.
