- Today I researched the principles of acupuncture.

- Acupuncturists believe that illness, pain and lack of function occur when the chi is unbalanced or blocked.
- They are trying to positively influence the chi by stimulating specific points.
- The natural healing ability of the body is positively influenced.
- Commonly very thin metallic needles are inserting into the skin.

- Today I researched the risks and the pain.
- The needles only cause a mild aching sensation when they reach the correct depth.
- No risks, as long as the practitioner is certified, competent and experienced.
- However improperly performed acupuncture can cause serious complications such as infections or organ injury.

- Today I researched the elements of a treatment.
- The practitioner is going to ask about your symptoms and your general lifestyle, will examine the painful parts of your body, the shape, coating and colour of your tongue, the colour of your face and the strength, rhythm and quality of the pulse in your wrist.
- The acupuncturist is going to choose the right meridians and punctures. Further he or she will insert the needles.
- After the placement of the needles, they will remain in their position for 10 to 20 minutes, while you are trying to relax as much as possible.

- Today I researched how to chose an acupuncturist.
- Ask people you trust for recommendations
- Check the authority and qualifications of your potential practitioner
- Ask which things the treatment will involve, how much it will cost and how likely it is to help your specific condition.
- A common treatment plan for a single complaint typically involve one to two treatments a week for four to eight weeks. If there is still no recovery, either the acupuncturist or the therapy is not the right method for your problem.
