Title: “Commerce in Guayanilla Suffers Monetary Loss because of the Earthquake and Its Waves Aftershocks”

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/consumo/nota/comerciosenguayanillasufrenperdidasmonetariascomoconsecuenciadelterremotoysusreplicas-2541513/

Summary- In Barrio Playa, Guayanilla you’ll see lots of activities including music, food, and drinking. The surrounding area is very important economically for the municipality. In Three Kings Day the first earthquake hit with a magnitude of 5.8 and the next morning the second one hit with a 6.4 magnitude. As a result of the first two earthquakes, a bridge on the main road was closed to make sure it doesn't break down. Apart from that, water pipes were broken causing water to stop flowing to the businesses in Barrio Playa. The economy has decreased due to the fact that the bridge is closed and tourists can't reach the local businesses. Sometimes there is no water to provide and the people are becoming scared. Restaurants have lost many resources because there is no power to keep them fresh. One of the many restaurants in Barrio Playa, Guayanilla named Michael Miller Seafood & Steakhouse reported that on Three Kings Day he would usually make $7,000 dollars in sales but on this occasion they only made $600. Apart from losing most of their supplies they had broken items that will eventually need fixing. In other restaurants not only are the clients not going but the staff is not in attendance as well. Many of the locals have left their own homes and taken refuge in shelters because they are afraid of the possible damage happening in the surrounding communities. They have also had to invest in power generators because their light sources comes and goes. Grocery stores have to close early because people no longer take a trip down there to shop. People that have houses that were affected by the earthquakes are being moved because the streets, power sources, and water services have to be repaired. Businesses all around the community are still recording the losses in damages and supplies causing economic impact to be bigger than ever before.

Reflection- From this article I learned the huge importance that tourism has on the island. It is impressive to see how natural disasters can cause great damage to the economy and to see how these local businesses depend on tourists to visit and buy. But was I also think is that it is very important to educate and alert people of alternate routes and to say what is actually going on so that people don't feel intimidated to come visit if it is safe.

Citation: Gerardo-E-Alvarado-Leon. “Comercios En Guayanilla Sufren pérdidas Monetarias Como Consecuencia Del Terremoto y Sus réplicas.” El Nuevo Dia, 17 Jan. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/consumo/nota/comerciosenguayanillasufrenperdidasmonetariascomoconsecuenciadelterremotoysusreplicas-2541513/.

Title: "A decrease in the use of Medicinal Cannabis has been reported after the earthquakes"

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/reportanbajaenelconsumodecannabismedicinaltraslossismos-2543557/#cxrecs_s

Summary: The Cannabis industry has not suffered major damage during the time that the earthquakes have hit Puerto Rico. But, their sales have gone down as low as 25% after the earthquakes because customers have reduced their visits to the dispensaries. Not only they can't make it to the dispensaries , they are having trouble paying for their medicine. Owners of dispensaries have already alerted customers that they can come because there has not been any harm to the cannabis harvests and other types of medicine, they remain intact and they businesses have been open. Many owners have also said that they hope that the behavior of the customers changes soon because these businesses can't just simply stay in business if their customers don't come because there is only a small group of people that need this type of medicine. The Cannabis industry of Puerto Rico have proposed the government to consider the possibility to extend the expiration dates in the cannabis certificates for patients in the municipalities that have been included in the federal disaster committee. They asked for it to be extended for a minimum of 90 day so that the customers can get their medicines.

Reflection: This situation needs more awareness than the one it's getting now. Like any other medicine, there are many patients that rely on cannabis to function correctly on a daily basis. Economically I feel bad for the cannabis industry because I know that they depend on a minority of cannabis users to come and buy the products they offer. The industry is in a situation right now that they need money desperately to maintain their products up to date and good to consume. Also, the cannabis industry is one that is just starting in Puerto Rico, there are many people that are investing in the industry and they need sales to boom because if not there will be a great loss in money for something that if it is well treated, it could be a really good source of money for the government, owners, and investors in the business. It's a good idea to ask the government for a cannabis certificate extension because it gives the customers time to go back to the dispensaries and get what they need. I see cannabis as another medication that for some, it has positive outcomes and yes, it's a great way to gain money and help the Puerto Rican economy out, it is needed.

Citation: Antonio-R-Gomez. “Reportan Baja En El Consumo De Cannabis Medicinal Tras Los Sismos.” El Nuevo Dia, 28 Jan. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/reportanbajaenelconsumodecannabismedicinaltraslossismos-2543557/#cxrecs_s.

Title: "The investment made by Altria in the electronic cigarettes JUUL is resulting to be very costly"

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/elcostodeinversiondealtriaenlacompaniadecigarrilloselectronicosjuulresultamuyelevado-2544012/

Summary: At the end of 2018 "Altria", the company that makes Marlboro cigarettes saw that they were losing money in the sales of cigarettes so they made the investment of buying "JUUL"(electronic cigarettes) for 13,000 million dollars. But that investment was very costly for them. Recently Altria had to give $4,100 million because of legal issues concerning JUUL. JUUL has been affected because of state and federal investigations for selling to minors. There has been an outbreak in reports of people having lung problems due to vaping and that created pressure to the electronic cigarettes. Companies like Philip Morris International are trying to create new technologies to make an alternative from traditional tobacco use to compensate the loss in sales and safer option for tobacco users.

Reflection: As a teenager I have seen how JUUL has taken over the tobacco industry and created a habit among other people my age and older. It is an alternative from the traditional smoking that people thought was way safer due to that it doesn't have the same chemicals as the cigarette, though it has other chemicals that do more damage to the human body. At some point in the beginning I could imagine that JUUL was creating an empire and gaining tons of money, and the were, everyone had/has a JUUL. But then studies started to come out, people started to complain, and people started to get sick. JUUL definitely after this have been losing money because its not worth it to damage severely your longs and body because of an electronic cigarette, plus, the battery by itself and the accessories that came with it to have a complete and useable JUUL were expensive so not everyone could buy a JUUL either. I am not in favor of the JUUL company because I've seen the effects that people have because of these things and its worry some to see so many people not really care about there health and what an electronic cigarette could do in the long run.

Citation: The-Associated-Press. “El Costo De inversión De Altria En La compañía De Cigarrillos electrónicos Juul Resulta Muy Elevado.” El Nuevo Dia, 30 Jan. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/elcostodeinversiondealtriaenlacompaniadecigarrilloselectronicosjuulresultamuyelevado-2544012/.

Title: "Nike Is Temporarily Closing Stores in China Because of the Coronavirus Outbreak. What It Means for the Stock"

Link: https://www.barrons.com/articles/nvidia-lyft-alibaba-and-other-stocks-for-investors-to-watch-this-week-51581278400

Summary: Nike has notified investors about how their business is doing in China because of the coronavirus outbreak since it was starting to affect trading operations. It is said that the problem with the disease has to do with the material used by Nike and that they want to avoid any problems with people getting infected. Nike’s CEO John Donahoe reported that they will be stopping manufacturing in China temprarily because they are concerned on peole affected and wasnt to focus on the health andsafety of theri teammates and partners. He also said that Nike wants to continue to serve consumers in Greater China with inspiration and innovation and maintain their reputation strong. Nike last year generated $6.2 billion and made about 16% of their total sales, only in China. Apart from selling apparel the factories in China manufactured around 23% of Nike’s footwear. The amount of the Nike Brand apparel manufactured in China was around 27% of the corporate total in 2019. Nike has given an update on how the coronavirus has affected them on the market but they reported that it is still too early to see how much impact this disease has had on them financially.

Reflection: I think that if the coronavirus keeps on spreading around the world this could create a giant dent in our economy and the stock market. The reason why I focus on the effect on the stock market is because right now Nike is one of the companies that is leading the stocks and they have a lot of investors that are putting money on Nike and believing that they will continue to increase making sales and keep gaining money. Though, most of Nike’s production is in China where the first reports of Coronavirus came out and if production stops in China then consumers won't be able to buy any new apparel from Nike temporarily. Also even though this Coronavirus issue is premature and could be handled before it gets out of hand, Nike has to consider that their competition has productions in other countries and at this point they arent being affected. I think Nike has to think beforehand, which i'm sure they are, and make a plan on how they can hop on back into making high quantities of production as fast as possible.

Citation: Jasinski, Nicholas. “Nvidia, Lyft, Alibaba, and Other Stocks for Investors to Watch This Week.” Barron's, Barrons, 9 Feb. 2020, www.barrons.com/articles/nvidia-lyft-alibaba-and-other-stocks-for-investors-to-watch-this-week-51581278400.

Title: "The German court stops temprarily the construction of Tesla factory"

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/cortealemanadetienetemporalmentelaconstrucciondefabricadeteslaenalemania-2547290/

Summary: A German court, this Sunday, temporarily suspended the making of the first Tesla (elecotronic cars) factory in Europe. The superior court of Belin-Brandenburg ordered the company to stop cutting teas in the zone near Berlin until the zone is examined and appealed by an environmental group. In a press release, the court said they have to emit the order because if not then Tesla would have done the factory quickly. Though, the environmental group known as the Green League from Brandenburg presented their appeal mentioning the posibility of Tesla’s power plant contaminating the portable water of the area and could also generate other problems. Tesla indicated that in this plant headquarters batterys and cars will be made and the next new car known as the Model Y. the company said that this factory was to be completed in the middle of next year. The past month German authorities found 187 pounds of ammunition from World War II where Tesla began to contruct. Tesla is planning on making two more factories in the United States and in China.

Reflection: Right now Tesla is one of the companies that is generating the most amount of revenue eachday. They are doing great on the stock market and really are giving people and investors a wonderful image of how well and productive these electric cars can be. Tesla has sold us a car that will be the future in the world if they continue to create quality cars infacor of the environment. I think that one of Tesla’s most important concerns has to do with the article I chose because they are trying to provide a car that is better for the environment then where these cars are made should take place in an area where not much of the enviroment is affected. If Tesla focuses on being better for the world, they will definitely continue to get good results and will sell more in this specific moment where the people in the world are asking for something healthy that doesnt contaminate. I am happy and infavor with how Tesla is exanding their horizons and putting a car safe for the earth on the streets. The only thing that concerns me is the pricing of these cars, they are highly luxurious but could not be bought by everyone who wants one. If these cars want to be seen more on the street, certainly price is a big part of this.

Citation: The-Associated-Press. “Corte Alemana Detiene Temporalmente La construcción De fábrica De Tesla En Alemania.” El Nuevo Dia, 16 Feb. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/cortealemanadetienetemporalmentelaconstrucciondefabricadeteslaenalemania-2547290/.

In a message sent out, United Airline announced that they will be reducing the amount of international and domestic flights globally due to the decrease in demand in consecuence of Coronavirus (Covid-19). Airlines like Cathay Pacific and British Airways have been found in situations where they also have to cancel large amounts of flights due to decrease in demand because of the illness. Even though the release that United Airlines gave didn't specify the impact in the Puerto Rico market, they are assuring that the decrease in their international bookings, combined with a smaller amount of demand among American travelers, is requiring significant change in their national itinerary. United’s flight itinerary in flights to the United States and Canada are expected to drop 10% in April. They are already planning to cut flights in May. In international flights, United will reduce their flights by 20% in April, and more cuts will continue in the next months. In Puerto Rico for now, there hasn't been any cancelations for trips to the island but the Puerto Rican tourist Company is very well aware that this could change daily and everyone has to be ready.

Reflection: I have been following how the Coronavirus has been affecting the financial market around the world since the outbreak started. From apparel and manufacturing business being affected this illness has spread to endanger Airline companies and most important, people who want to travel from place to another. Airlines find themselves in this terrible situation where they are losing money and don't have enough people who want to travel because they don't want to be exposed to this highly contagious virus that could affect their lives. People are making the choice of cancelling travels and staying put where they know that they are safer from extracting the virus. Its bad to keep on seeing how this virus is spreading and affecting every single thing it touches. Airlines cant afford to be another reason for why this virus is spreading, they cant afford to have people carrying this illness and taking it to a place where it still hasn't been discovered.

Citation: Rut-N-Tellado-Domenech. “Aerolíneas Comienzan a Sentir El Impacto Del Coronavirus.” El Nuevo Dia, 4 Mar. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/aerolineascomienzanasentirelimpactodelcoronavirus-2550761/.

Title: “Amazon has 100,000 jobs available”

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/amazontienedisponible100000empleos-2553332/

Summary:
Amazon has to employ 100,000 people in the United States to be able to give out all the products that have been purchased. This is because the amount of products bought online has increased due to people staying home because of the COVID-19. The company said that they will increase temporarily their salaries by $2 dollars for now until the end of April to all those employees that receive their money every hour. This includes Amazon’s employees working in the warehouses, shipping centers, and grocery stores like Whole Foods, all of the people working here that earn less than $15 dollar per hour. Employees from Great Britain and other European countries will receive a similar increase. Dave Clark (Amazon supervisor of online warehouses and shipping) said that “they are seeing a significant increase in demand, meaning that they are in need of laborers and that they were not ready for what is going on now”. The increase in requests has generated pressure over Amazon's operations. Amazon has warned clients that the shipping of products could take more time than usual and they also said that they are running low on house cleaning goods and that they are working on restocking. Amazon says that they are looking for full time workers, part time workers, drivers to deliver packages, and warehouse workers that make sure to pack and send the packages requested by clients.

Reflection: This is a perfect example of how the coronavirus continues to affect businesses due to the situation getting worst. Business are being pressured into staying on their feet and maintaining themselves from being completely wiped out financially. these business continually have to be generating ideas to keep their clients satisfied even though the situation is tough. Since lots of people are staying home because of the quarantine, they have time to make online purchases and of course they want their things to arrive by the times expected. Businesses with online services need laborers who are willing to devote and potentially risk their time to help these businesses deliver their orders on time and correctly. We are seeing how businesses are struggling in moment where the world as a whole is struggling. As we see big businesses with big amounts of money which slowly are losing it we see small business and people who depend on these business being greatly affected because they could reach to the point they don't have any money left. There is not sure time for when the coronavirus will cease but businesses will definitely find themselves in situations of survival.

Citation: The-Associated-Press. “Amazon Tiene Disponible 100,000 Empleos.” El Nuevo Dia, 17 Mar. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/amazontienedisponible100000empleos-2553332/.

Title: “Businesses and churches starting to use electronics as a way to generate economic activity”

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/comercioseiglesiasrecurrenamedioselectronicosyvirtualesparageneraractividadeconomica-2554931/

Summary: Coffee Shops, hardware stores, car stores, and even churches have contacted “Dynamics Payments” in the past few days since businesses have had to close down and the curfew ordered by the government to avoid the spread of the coronavirus has affected the way businesses and entities work. The social distancing organized by the government a week ago to stop Covid-19 has had for now a few effects. The first one, no use of cash in companies. There are fears of consumers and companies using cash and this has been stopped because they say that the virus can stay active in surfaces for a few hours. Because of this most businesses have had to start doing electronic payments, virtual transactions, and sell to the commercial world electronically. It was known that if one new technology would start like paying without a contact, the consumer and business would start using them. But in Puerto Rico and other markets these new technologies would take a longer time to arrive. Dynamics has taken the initiative to help businesses to operate electronically more efficiently. In markets in Puerto Rico, the closing of establishments and the curfew has reduced the volume of transactions in establishments but here in the island there is going to be a quick switch in the way goods and services are bought. There is going to be a shift in the behavior of the people and some businesses and that will take an advantage of the technology. Artists like Tommy Torres offered a concert through YouTube where 40,000 people entered to see him (that's the Jose M. Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan filled to capacity twice). The singer later confirmed that more than 600,000 people accessed his online concert with electronics. It will be a matter of time where concerts will be offered online if you pay for them. The interesting thing is that this alternative to pay electronically is economically reachable not just for big establishments, change businesses, or small businesses, the most affected by this situation.

Reflection: I think that this situation has created multiple problems to businesses who depend a lot on their consumers on a daily basis and simply businesses of every type. Every single businesses want to survive these harsh times since most of them have found themselves in situations where they could possibly close down, but, there is an alternative that could save them. In places like Puerto Rico where there is a strict restriction for people to leave there houses on certain times and of course for the safety of the people to stop the spread of this virus, businesses don't get as much consumers as usual so they could continue their business electronically. Not just businesses but artists, singers, etc... who depend on big crowds can all switch to provided their product on the cyber market. It is a very efficient and safe way for people to obtain what they want. People who want foods can order takeout, people who want to hear their favorite singer can login into a live concert, people who want to buy goods can order them and get it shipped to their door. Their are many alternatives that can save businesses and can help increase and get the economy flowing once again.

Citation: Joanisabel-Gonzalez. “Comercios e Iglesias Recurren a Medios electrónicos y Virtuales Para Generar Actividad económica.” El Nuevo Dia, 22 Mar. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/comercioseiglesiasrecurrenamedioselectronicosyvirtualesparageneraractividadeconomica-2554931/.

The company sold the clothes exclusively through the internet during the Coronavirus pandemic. FRSH Company usually sells hundreds of apparel on the internet every time they drop a new collection. But, this time it was the first time they achieved to liquidate all of their inventory without having to attend a single customer in their store in Hato Rey. “We are very grateful with the local support and from people in other parts of the world. Though, in this moment that we are living, in the one where all of us are in isolation, we have achieved to connect with the people through fashion. And if fashion apart from being a passion, serves us for communication to our generation and the youth, then with that we are winning”. This is what Harry Maldonado the founder and creative director of FRSH Company said. He has dressed important artists of the urban genre like Bad Bunny and Daddy Yankee since 2014. Maldonado designed “World is melting” to create awareness of these global events that have affected humanity. This collection included 11 different pieces, each one represents an element or a natural phenomenon. “This collection was meant to manifest the importance of redirecting our attention to topics and practices that pursue our own well being. We share a great space in common: the earth. We have to be more conscientious about the impact we have on each other and how we can live a better life together as a society and with the planet”, Maldonado added, that he is focusing on 4 annual collections, but drops new apparel each two weeks. Now he is focusing on filling every order through mail, now he is ready to drop his new apparel through his online store on April 9.

Reflection: I think its great how business are already making plans on trying to make the economy run again. They have found how great it is to have people in their home wanting to do things and these stores have taken full advantage and have offered their merchandise through the internet. I completely support local work and I love this brand, they have managed to sell all of their apparel through the internet and both the consumer and sellers are safe and fulfilled. i think this is a great opportunity for stores to make a statement on who they am and to offer their upmost attention through the internet, this create more customer satisfaction making them feel like they can trust the brand more and then keep on buying. This pandemic is still affecting a lot of businesses that can sell their items through the internet but I think this is an opportunity for this business to think out of the box and make profits even though the times are harsh.

Citation: Elnuevodia. “Diseñador Boricua Vende Toda Su colección De Ropa En Menos De Media Hora.” El Nuevo Dia, 30 Mar. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/empresas/nota/disenadorboricuavendetodasucoleccionderopaenmenosdemediahora-2557127/.

Title: “Supermarket owners are mad at the governor”

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/consumo/nota/losduenosdesupermercadosestanmolestosconlagobernadora-2558933/

Summary: Super markets are mad at governor Wanda Vazquez for not consulting before holy week to decide that the sector is going to operate 4 days and it has to close three consecutive days. From Holy Friday to Sunday(Easter). “The solution is worse than the problem and this decision definitely has to be reconsidered”, said Ivan Baez, the director of Government Affairs of Walmart Puerto Rico. He represents “Amigo” supermarket, Walmart Supermarkets, Sam’s Club and regular Walmarts. “Closing this next Saturday will create chaos since it was not consulted with the economic “task force”, said Baez, which he identified himself as a part of the team that advises the governor. These supermarkets are already suffering economically since their sales are under since the emergency started. During this pandemic, some employees at supermarkets have tested positive to the virus, this has gone across some supermarkets around the island. The chain supermarkets have taken measures to isolate the employees that are positive and put them on quarantine the ones who have been at risk of giving a positive test. Eduardo Marxuach, president of Econo(supermarket), has been shocked with the news that the governor gave last night. He said that if she had consulted before that he would have suggested closing on Glory Saturday because there are less hours to operate due to the quarantine. “Communication doesn't exist with the governor”, he said. There are a lot of elderly people visiting the supermarkets many days in the week, said Marxuach, even though there is an emergency and even though the governor asked people to stay home. The executive urged the government to assign more police to the supermarkets to control the lines and the traffic, since their private guards aren't enough.

Reflection: I think that it was wrong of the interim governor Wanda Vazquez to not notify supermarkets and other businesses about her plans to not open during some days. I believe that she doesn't have such power to do that since she is a governor that just came in to cover the past one who got sacked from his place. In these harsh times businesses are having to adapt to the changes and it is hard when there is demand for food and supplies. Apart from the people who want provisions, it is hard for the business owners and workers to be changing plans all of a sodden. They have to meet requirements and have money to earn so that they can bring food to each of their family tables. Decisions to not open certain places that are necessary in society should be discussed because there are negotiations and agreements that can be made. Instead of closing some days that are important for consumers, they should close on days that consumption isn't so high. I understand that it's a decision based on the statistics these days that people aren't following the rules of quarantine in Puerto Rico and I think that in some part, Wanda has done good trying to keep people from spreading the virus that is killing many around the world. But, the economy and society have to keep on going someway or another and she cannot simply put a stop in everything because that is going to cause great chaos in Puerto Rico.

Citation: Marian-Diaz. “Los dueños De Supermercados están Molestos Con La Gobernadora.” El Nuevo Dia, 6 Apr. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/consumo/nota/losduenosdesupermercadosestanmolestosconlagobernadora-2558933/.

Title: “The United States creates a committee to reopen the economy”

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/economia/nota/estadosunidoscreaconsejoparaestudiarreaperturaeconomica-2561004/

Summary: The United States government is going to create a committee to study the different ways that the economy could be reopened due to the coronavirus. This committee that seems that it's not going to include health officials could create tension between the White House, economists, and public health officials. Between the need to reopen the economy versus the need to guarantee that the virus does not rise again. Since there could be a big recession approaching, Donald Trump is anxious to reactivate the economy and stabilize the financial markets and recover nearly 16 million unemployed workers due to the virus. Initially Trump has expectations of reopening during Holy week but now he is awaiting to reactivate the economy partially by the end of April. Many experts from the government like Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx have warned the government that abandoning restriction too soon could bring a new wage of people infected, this would create another reason to again paralyze the economy. Some other experts and members from other committee’s created by Trump have said that they are worried that there can be a possibility that Trump won't be tolerating different points of views nor inconvenient truths in the new committee. It has been leaked that the new committee will include the secretary of treasury Steve Mnuchin, Comerce Wilbur Ross, and Vivienda Ben Carson. The economic advisors Kevin Hassett and Larry Kudlow. And finally the new secretary of the presidency, Mark Meadows. The committee will be working separately from the committee of the coronavirus by vice president Mike Pence, though it is possible that some officials are repeated among both groups. It's also possible that some business leaders and governors are included in the group. The United States is the country with the most confirmed cases and deaths with more than 500,000 cases and 22,000 deaths. The state of New York is the most affected with nearly 700 registered for the 6th day in a row.

Reflection: I could relate to how Donald Trump feels about wanting to urgently reopen the economy completely. Though, he is viewing this by giving a little more importance to how the country is doing financially instead of maybe caring more about the citizens. I think there should be a balance and let businesses open at their own risk since orders and rules have been set to prevent Corona from spreading. The world has to continue running since people depend on jobs and money to survive but if they want to stay home and prevent being contaminated that they should be able to do so. The reality is that there are going to be many people who continue to die because of Corona but the important thing is to contain it as much as possible. People aren’t taking the proper measures and disobeying the rules imposed during this period of time.

Citation: The-Associated-Press. “Estados Unidos Crea Consejo Para Estudiar Reapertura económica.” El Nuevo Dia, 14 Apr. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/economia/nota/estadosunidoscreaconsejoparaestudiarreaperturaeconomica-2561004/.

Title: “People requesting help since unemployment in The United States has increases to 22 million”

Link: https://www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/economia/nota/personassolicitandoayudapordesempleoenestadosunidosaumentana22millones-2561590/
https://www.elnuevodia.com/noticias/eeuu/nota/estadosunidosregistra22millonesdesolicitudespordesempleo-2561668/#cxrecs_s

Summary: All non essential businesses have been closed down almost in all States, at the same time that the economy practically fell. The generalized loss in employment has altered the great majority of the economic branches. This is by far the worst unemployment streak that the United States has registered. The big wave of people who have been laid off due to the impact on the economy in The United States because of the new Coronavirus and has obliged about 5.2 million people to go find help because of the unemployment from last week, said the governor last Thursday. With the new numbers, nearly 22 million people have requested benefits for unemployment in the past month. In total, approximately 12 million people have received checks for unemployment, almost equaling the peak reached in January of 2010, little after the end of the official period of the great recession. The laying off of people goes more far out affecting branches like hotels, bars, restaurants, that have absorbed the initial impact of the employment cut, this includes white collar workers, programmers, and construction workers. Collectively, the reduction of employment could generate a major unemployment scale. Up to 50 million people are being exposed due to COVID-19, the economists say that approximately a third of all the work spaces in The United States. These numbers are based on the calculations of the jobs from the federal and state government considered as non essentials and can't do their jobs from their homes.

Reflection: It's scary to see so many people being laid off from their jobs since businesses can support paying their employees and of course because of their safety businesses are being forced to close down. There are jobs that can be done from home and I think that is something that businesses have to think about beforehand. Businesses should always have a Plan B just in case emergencies like these happen. Especially in a time like this where health is at risk people have families to feed and to support so people are having to use all their money saved and with a problem where there isn't even a cure yet then families are really being pressured since they might run out of money. I think it's great that the government is handing out checks to the people fired from their jobs but of course this is going to cause problems since not everyone unemployed has received a check yet and the scale of unemployment is increasing. I just really hope the virus cools down as fast as possible so that the economy and life in general goes back to normal.

Citation: The-Associated-Press. “Personas Solicitando Ayuda Por Desempleo En Estados Unidos Aumentan a 22 Millones.” El Nuevo Dia, 16 Apr. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/negocios/economia/nota/personassolicitandoayudapordesempleoenestadosunidosaumentana22millones-2561590/.
The-Associated-Press. “Estados Unidos Registra 22 Millones De Solicitudes Por Desempleo.” El Nuevo Dia, 16 Apr. 2020, www.elnuevodia.com/noticias/eeuu/nota/estadosunidosregistra22millonesdesolicitudespordesempleo-2561668/#cxrecs_s.
