In the book Gaby overcomes stigma and stereotypes that people give to her as she is a pregnant teen mom. In the song Kesha explains that she is proud of who she is from overcoming monsters and being able to feel like she can breathe again. This relates to in both the song and the book that they are overcoming things that may have been a problem at first, but now are resolved.

The story is focused on Gaby Rodriguez, who is in high school in the state of Washington. She comes from a big family full of teen pregnancies, with it just being expected she would follow the same path. With this being noted she decided to do an experiment going off this statement. She decided to fake a pregnancy for her senior project, testing how people would react to the stereotype of her family. She notes the reactions of family and friends through the entire process going through challenges that still impact her, even though she isn’t actually pregnant.

I know this because it happens to Gaby as she fakes her own pregnancy. So many people who treated her right for so long started to look down on her because of one thing that has happened to her. Based on when she first told people you could tell who was supportive and who was disappointed in her. She faces lots of challenges for this project knowing that this is gonna happen, but overall is giving her the results she knew she wanted. Overall, I think the author chose to write about this because she wants readers to know the effect the stereotypes have on people. Although the pregnancy was fake, it still affected Gaby deeply because of the way she was treated by others and the things people would say about her. I feel the author wants the message to come across of being supportive of others and the things they do because you never know the story behind it all.

Since teen pregnancies were highly hated during the time period it was often addressed, but no one would ever talk about the hatred that was given to this subject. With Gaby doing this for her senior project, it made people realize they need to step back and worry about themselves, even if they aren’t a fan of the choices they are making.Since teen pregnancies were highly hated during the time period it was often addressed, but no one would ever talk about the hatred that was given to this subject. The main action of the story took place in Washington at the high school Gaby went to. It was also seen that most of her interactions with others were either out in public or in her own home. Gaby definitely faced more judgment in the larger areas like school and out in public with more people realizing what she was going through. Whereas when she was at home or one on one with people,they seemed to be more understanding and more tuned in to what she had to say about her experience of pregnancy.

Ethos - As this was a memoir from the author’s own personal experience it proved very trustworthy and promising experiences which helped create more of an impacting message to the story. It showed that from her personal experience people should learn to not stereotype others for decisions they make.

Pathos - She uses pathos for the different feelings she had for the judgement she faced from others. Although she knew this was all an experiment it still made her feel upset with the way people treated her all because of one fake decision she made.

Logos - The author also used logos as her entire senior project was a logical plan of how to record a social experiment. This documented the reactions people had to her pregnancy and showed the stereotypes people had on teen pregnancies.
