I continued to do the same reading check-ins however, I learned what I stop and jot was and I began helping students formulate and remember to write down their stop and jots on sticky notes. I took on more responsibilities such as helping cut out math facts and sorting them in piles for each student. This week I also began to feel more comfortable redirecting students when they got off task or were not paying attention. After learning their expectations last week I felt more confident in knowing when it was time to intervene. I also learned math games and got to play with students during WIN (What I Need time). This was a good learning experience on how to manage many students at once because everyone wants to play different games and have my attention. The first time I felt I didn’t do a great job managing the groups and making sure everyone wasn’t getting distracted by each other. However, the second time I played with them they were told to stick in pairs which made it alot easier to manage any minor conflicts that arose. Additionally I began to meet with students one on one and practice a group of math facts with them. I will continue working on this project throughout the next week and will mark down facts students need help on and write down how confident they were with the facts. I really enjoyed doing this because it allowed me to talk to students individually and form a better connection and understanding of where I might be able to help them during activities. Mrs. Mendoza also introduced me to having my own reading group and allowed me to pick from 3 books to have my group read. I am super excited to be starting my reading group of 4 where we will be reading The Milo and Jazz Mysteries: The Case Of The Stinky Socks. I get to introduce the book on Monday! We met on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to discuss what they had read and to share stop and jots. Monday was the first day I introduced the book by having a student read the back and then we discussed difficult vocabulary and read the first chapter together taking turns reading. After we made predictions and a plan for where to stop reading. I also reminded the students of stop and jots, reviewing expectations and answering questions. On Wednesday each student shared their stop and jots and we practiced building off of what each other said. I used an organizer for the stop and jots that Mrs. Mendoza gave me to organize the conversation. On Friday we met again and discussed the author's message and made predictions for the end of the book. On Wednesday the 2nd grade class had a rehearsal for their around the world concert so I helped Ms. Verret during their rehearsal. Mrs. Mendoza was not here for the 2nd half of the day on Thursday so I helped the substitute teacher mostly with classroom management and following their routines. While she was trying to connect the laptop to the smart board I took it upon myself to entertain the class since they were getting very fidgety waiting. I took them through hot coco breaths and used a stretchy ball to take them through breathing exercises to calm them down. After the sub and another teacher were still not able to get the computer connected so I led them in playing guess my number while we waited. Mrs. Mendoza has a can of popsicle sticks with all of their names so I would pick a number then pick out names so that everyone wasn't trying to have me pick them for raising their hand. I used the chime once or twice to remind students not to guess unless their name was picked. This worked really well and all the students were engaged and behaving. After a few rounds the smart board was working again so I rang the chime again and transitioned them to paying attention to the sub and smart board. The sub did not know their names so I helped call on kids during the overview of what they should be working on. On Friday Mrs. Mendoza was also out so I helped the sub who is also a teaching assistant at Fiske with the typical things I help Mrs. Mendoza with. This week in Mrs. Mendoza's class I continued working with students through their math facts during “What I Need” time (WIN) and only have a few more students to finish off with next week. I helped put away books in the return box in the classroom library and started to organize the chapter book section by organizing the Magic Tree House books and the Ivy and Bean books. I hope to continue this next week. During WIN I also helped explain division to a student who was working on it on DreamBox and using cubes and a white board we worked through problems together. During math time I worked with students at the back table on pages in their SAB booklets. Sometimes my group can be a little hard to handle because they side track each other but I am getting better at managing the group. I really enjoy helping students with their math problems so this is my favorite part of the day. In the Book group this week I caught up one of the students since she was not here last week so I helped catch her up on what we discussed last week. After catching her up we wrapped up our book group for the first Milo and Jazz book. Discussing more about the author's message and the character development of Milo throughout the book. We looked back and found moments where we were surprised by Milo as well as places we thought he grew. I then introduced the 2nd Milo and Jazz mystery. This week I was also able to join the class in both Library and Art. In Library students worked on creating bridges so I walked around and asked each group to explain their plan and helped facilitate discussions between students when there were conflicting ideas. In Art students were finishing making their fish kites so I helped staple them closed, stuff them and then attach streamers and a string to hold it. I mainly helped with stapling the fish together and streamers on to it. This week they also started their ABC countdown to summer with Bubble Day for the letter B so I helped during recess to make sure everyone was taking turns with the bubbles then collected them and returned them to Mrs. Mendoza's room. On Bubble Day I also stayed for 1st grade recess and then went to Mrs Mendoza's room and organized the library while they ate lunch. I had an amazing experience in Mrs. Mendoza's classroom that I will forever remember! 

This past week I worked on wrapping up all of my tasks in Mrs. Mendoza's classroom. I finished working with kids on their math facts and met with my reading group one last time. At the beginning of the week one of the students asked me when I was leaving and I told her this was my last week. This news spread so quickly around the classroom and so many kids kept coming up every day asking if this was the last day and if they would see me again. This was so heart warming because it made me realize how big of an impact I had on her class. I had so many request to help them and sit with them because everyone wanted to spend some last minutes with me. Our big events this week was field day on Wednesday so I was able to come and play a few field day games with the class and get a group picture. Because of MCAS schedule I was able to spend more time at Fiske on Tues and Wed than I would have with our normal schedule which was a great way to end. On my last day I had a normal first part of the day and during silent time I tried to organize more of Mrs. Mendoza's class library. At the end of my time in her classroom I was able to sit with all the kids on the rug and Mrs. Mendoza and her class created a gift for me so I opened it with the class. They made me a book of college advice from 2M! It was extremely meaningful to me and had a page from each student with a picture and advice. I read each page out loud to the class. Mrs. Mendoza also gave me a few things for my college experience which a really appreciated. It was a great way to close out my experience and I will cherish the book forever. I hope to go back and visit Mrs. Mendoza's class again before summer!
