What is Positivism in social science research? Are we able to achieve reliable, predictive knowledge while studying human societies and human behaviours? Yes? No? Why?Assign at least two members of your group to present your findings to the rest of the class.

1) Positivism in Social Science is a principle developed by Auguste Comte in hopes of gaining reliable knowledge of the social world in order to make predictions, giving us the ability to intervene in progressive ways, through direct observations and theories to establish a generalisation.

2) We don't believe that it is ever possible to achieve complete reliable and predictive knowledge while studying human behaviour and societies due to the fact that humans are self-conscious beings that are able to act in ways that contradict our predictions. Even if it is possible, the ability to predict, intervene and control human behaviour would be too dangerous and even then, there is still the question of who would control and intervene for it to go in the supposedly positive direction.

1. Positivism aims at the scientific study of the social world. It lets us observe social phenomena in social operation and analyze the general law through logic.
In addition, it is an approach to sociology, as well as philosophy, that is based on empirical evidence, such as experiments and statistics.

2. By generalisation, sociologists can make a conclusion and predictions on social phenomena. However, it may not apply for every situation and works differently depending on individuals, countries or cultures. Because although sociologists' findings can be confirmed or criticised by conversation or interaction with humans, human behavioiurs have variables and might be unpredictable unlike natural sciences.
Human behavior is complex, which means that while we can infer some behavior from logic and observation, it can sometimes be just appearances, which can lead us in the wrong direction.

1.What is Positivism in social science research.
Positivism is a theory which based on principle of direct observation ,with theoreical statements aimed at establishing casual,law-like generalization. It is aimed to gain more knowledge of society, making more predictions about it,to intervene and shape it in progressive ways.
2.According to our discussion,we don't agree with the statement of that ,because when it comes to positivist ,there are lots of impossible and potentially dangerous facorts of our society. If we foucs on someone who is a self-couscious person, and his activities will break this prediction.

1. Positivism in Social Science is a principle developed by Auguste Comte in hopes of gaining reliable knowledge of the social world in order to make predictions about human societies and behaviours, giving us the ability to intervene in progressive ways, through direct observations and theories to establish a generalisation.

2. Although it is not impossible, obtaining reliable and predictive knowledge about human societies and behaviours would be very difficult. This is due to the fact that the subject of research in social science -- human beings -- is a self-concious and is capable of thinking with reason. This is different to other sciences, which study mostly unconcious beings such as plants and animals in the natural world. Thus, self-conciousness and reason of humans make their social behaviour much more unpredictable, and unreliable. However, a certain extent of knowledge could be obtained by observing similar patterns that exists in different societies.
