Our advice to you is to definitely try to choose a functional prototype that you think might work in your fieldwork assignments for your patients. Once you have a vision, you'll be able to build on that and effectively use or even sell your prototype for patients to use in real life. This course helps to implement your creativity into reality so take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

Go to the dollar store or Home Depot for ideas on different materials and items to use to make your prototype! There are many things you can use to make a successful product. I bought PVC pipes for very cheap to make ours, and it saved a lot of time trying to fabricate something completely from scratch!

My advice to future students is to put time and thought into the adaptive device you'd like to create. At the end of this class, you feel a sense of accomplishment! It's exciting to think your idea has come to life. Don't forget to stay on top of your work. Sunday nights can sneak up behind you. Try to complete your work mid week. That way you aren't stressed and overwhelmed with other work as well.

A tip for future students: during fieldwork, be open-minded and creative with your treatment plans and think of ways in which specific patients can benefit using a device personalized for them due to their deficit. This course was most definitely intriguing and offered great information on advancement in technology in regards to 3D printing, and will surely come in handy as future OT's!

Listen to your patients, they will be the inspiration for this class. What are they having difficulty doing? What would they like to do? Who is around to help them? What is important to them? These were the things I considered when creating my device. Pay attention to what is currently available in terms of AE and think of reasons why people don't like them or don't use them. How can you make it better?

Advice for future students: Be sure to look at your patients as a whole and examine every aspects of their lives. Sometimes when thinking of AE's they they can be a very simple adjustment to an activity and doesn't have to be a complicated device. 3D printing is a great tool to make ideas come to life. Not being afraid to be creative and voice your ideas could in turn create something amazing that could change your patients life.
