Most spiders have 8 eyes, although they cant see exceptionally well out of them.

The 8 eyes are typically arranged in two rows of 4.

There are different types of eyes that are on the spider. The direct eyes or AME eyes appear dark. The indirect eyes appear light and silvery, allowing a lot of light through them. These eyes increase visual sensitivity.

The spider first senses movement of distant prey with the side eyes (PLE), which provide a blurry wide-angle image.

Once movement is detected, the spider turns in that direction and locks onto the moving prey with the large, middle front eyes (AME). These eyes provide a clear, focused telephoto image, probably in color.

While the spider stalks closer, it uses the side front eyes (ALE) to judge the distance to the prey.

https://australianmuseum.net.au/how-spiders-see-the-world

My Biomimicry Project Adaptations

My invention is a headband that gives you additional eyes. My project went through various stages of development.

My first draft of the Teacher's Third Eye is a headband made of recycled fabric, that is placed on the forehead that has one extra eye or camera on the forehead to allow a teacher to catch additional things going on in the room. It has the ability to focus on other things than what the human two eyes are looking at.

I realized my first model with one extra eye was not enough. I then made a second model with four eyes in a row much like the spider's layout of eyes. Now, the headband has four camera eyes to catch different directions and areas of the room.

I considered the fact that the headband may fall off or be uncomfortable so I though to make the headband into a necklace or choker so the teacher would not have to worry about it on their head. In this stage I also made the cameras have an "auto focus" mode so that the teacher's vision does not get blurry.

For my final draft, I realized it would be way better to have extra eyes in the back of your head instead of the front. Teachers often times have to turn their back to students as they write on the board or pass out papers. Now, with the invention on the back of their head they can see at all angles. I went back to the headband model because I realized the necklace could get covered easily. Having it on your head ensures that your chin or clothes wont get in the way of the cameras. In this stage the cameras now also have a recording feature. With more and more problems happening in the classroom, a recording feature could be very beneficial for the teacher to have to keep them safe. Of course the teacher can also turn the headband cameras to the front if the teacher would like to record a student presentation or something of the sort.
I decided to name my invention Teacher's Spidey Eyes (for the back of the head).

The Teacher's Spidey Eye invention is very environmentally friendly. The headband piece itself is made of recycled fabric. The headband also promotes positive behaviors in the school. Due to the fact that students know they can be easily caught, the likely hood that students will litter or harm their environment around the teacher is slim to none.

My invention is a headband made of recycled fabric that will give teachers extra eyes to see their classroom and limit behavior issues. This model has camera eyes on the headband that will send video to the teacher so that they are able to "see" out of all six of their total eyes. The cameras can autofocus to ensure that the teacher does not have blurry vision. It can also record the video taken.
