This book fits the award in my opinion, the award is for acknowledging books “about struggles for social justice past and present, stories about people who devote their lives to fighting injustice, and stories about the importance of working together collectively and nonviolently” (Griffith 2013). This book was more talking about Ellis Island in the past but immigrants are still relevant today. The book talks about an author, Emma Lazarus, who wrote many pieces and poems. The one poem was about accepting immigrants into the US.

"Emma's Poem: The Voice of the Statue of Liberty" is about the life of Emma Lazarus how she was rich as were all her associates. It wasn't till she was older did she meet immigrants and started helping them out with reading. As an author she was asked to write a piece to raise money. Emma always wrote about what mattered to her. Her poem was what she thought the Statue of Liberty would say and it is now displayed in the lobby.
