Some areas can grow year round, while others can only grow certain plants each season.
Why is this important?
When we eat fruits and vegetables that are in season they don't have to travel far. They have been grown nearby, and haven't been sitting for days and days in a shipping container. This means they taste better, and are better for the environment.  These fruits and vegetables have been recently picked (so they're fresh!), and we haven't had to use a lot of gasoline and water to get them to the store.
