ROLE PLAY: Are all bad ending stories, bad for us?

Personally, I believe that through the life experiences of being a character in bad-ending stories, we can build our personality. The reason is because the act of overcoming hardships itself has the ability to shape us into who we are and who we will become.

Other than that, these so-called bad ending stories also can boost our maturity especially in the aspect of decision making. This is because we get to learn how to deal with the things that don’t go our way.

Hidden within every hardship and difficulty are innumerable spiritual bounties. Once we realize this, it is not impossible for us to successfully navigate even the most difficult ordeals.

ADAB TOWARDS PARENTS

In Islam, obedience to parents is obligatory only in what is permissible - and not in what is impermissible or sinful. As children, we should be humble when dealing with our parents. They should always be treated with courtesy since they are the ones with us at every step in our lifespan.

Adab towards parents in the aspect of:

1) Verbal communication
- Address them with respectable words
- Lower our voice tone during conversation
- Pay attention to them when they are speaking

2) Daily interaction
- Prioritize them at the dining table
- Bow the body a little bit when walking before them

Wisdom behind adab towards parents:

Tighten the ukhuwah between family members
Obtain rewards from Allah SWT
Receive blessings in the world and the Hereafter

ADAB TOWARDS NEIGHBOURS

Islam considers the rights of a neighbour to be extremely important. A Muslim must be good to his neighbours, no matter their religion. Maintaining these rights helps the individual and society to be happy.

Three types of neighbours in Islam:

One who has three rights as a Muslim neighbour and also a relative
One who has two rights – a Muslim neighbour
One who only has the rights of a neighbour – the non-Muslim neighbour

Rights of the neighbour:

Returning hid greetings and accepting his invitations
Refraining from harming him
Bearing the harm of the neighbour

Adab towards neighbours:
- Give salam when seeing them
- Speak kindly
- Be patient and forgiving
- Offer help
- Say good things (do not gossip!)

AL-QURAN AS A BOOK OF GUIDANCE

The Holy Qur'an is sent down by Allah to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is the last and final Holy Book which supersedes all the other Holdy Books preceding it.

Amongst other things, the Holy Qur'an has two principal roles:

First
Testifying to the truth of the contents of the Holy Books which came previously concerning religious rituals of servitude to God, belief in His Messengers, upholding of truth, justice, and correct human relationship. And, belief in retribution on Judgement Day.

Second
Exposing amendments - additions and subtractions - to the Holy Books made by the Jews and the Christians. This truth is stated by Allah in the Holy Quran:

"And, We revealed to you the Holy Qur'an (O, Muhammad), bringing Truth and verifying the authenticity of the Holy Books which came earlier, and preserving and controlling them.."
(Surah al-Ma'idah: 48)

"Among Jews, there were those who expunged the Words of the Lord (the contents of the Holy Book of Tawrat) from their true place and intention.."
(Surah al-Nisa': 46)

HADITH JIBRIL

Based on this hadith, Islam as a religion consists of three fundamental elements:

Islam
Iman
Ihsan

Outward Actions & Inward Beliefs

Jibril (as) turns to the Prophet (SAW) and says, “Tell me about Islam”. The Prophet’s answer was centered around outward actions.

Then he asks him about iman and the Prophet’s answer focused on internal actions of belief and of thought.

Islam and iman are interchangeable concepts revolved around the five pillars of action and the six foundations of belief.

When Islam and iman are mentioned together in the same place, then Islam refers to the outward actions and iman refers to the inward beliefs.

The scholars say that a belief lives in the heart and shows itself on the actions and on the tongue.

The Big Three: Islam, Iman & Ihsan

Islam (external conduct)

A person's surrender and submission to Allah through one's observances of the five pillars of Islam. The life of obedience (Islam) takes its birth from the seed of Iman.

Iman (inner belief)

A firm belief or faith arising out of knowledge and conviction.

Ihsan

Perfection, beautification and excellence of conducts and acts of worship due to one's realisation of God's presence.

Allah states in al-Qur'an that those who deny His truth (especially in the Last Day) will suffer in the fire of hell:

So is one who [stands] upon clear evidence from his Lord [like the aforementioned]? And a witness from Him follows it, and before it was the Scripture of Moses to lead and as mercy. Those [believers in the former revelations] believe in the Qur'an. But whoever disbelieves in it from the [various] factions - the Fire is his promised destination. So be not in doubt about it. Indeed, it is the truth from your Lord, but most of the people do not believe.

It is noted in the Qur'an that:

Only Allah knows the exact day of its occurence (33:63)
The Prophet Muhammad SAW does not decide on its occurence (6:57)
On that day, people would think that their presence on the earth was only in a short duration and everyone will recognise one another (10:45)
Allah SWT resurrects everyone, even those who have turned to dust or stone (17:49)

Belief in Qada' and Qadr means to have a firm belief that everything - good and bad - happens by Allah's Will and Decree, and Allah does whatsoever He Wills
As muslims, we need to believe in destiny. This is because all events in life have a purpose and there are no such thing as random occurences

“It was not without purpose that We created the heavens and the earth and everything in between” (38:27)

ROLE PLAY: Benefits of Practicing Correct Amal

From my point of view, "practicing correct amal" equals to performing the act of ibadah properly and at the same time, as accurately as possible.

For the sake of elaborating my points stated in the slide, I decided to take salah as the act of ibadah and emphasized on prostration.

Why, you may ask?
Because the underlying boons behind the act of prostration on its own, is already soo amazing.

Let me summarize:

Some of the health benefits of prostration includes its effects on our:

Muscles
Blood circulation
Internal organs

THE MUSCLES

The body is in active motion
Our neck has to bear the load when the forehead touches the ground; hence, the neck muscles become stronger

BLOOD CIRCULATION

Prostration is unique - the only position in which the brain is situated lower than the heart
In all other positions (even when lying down) the heart has to work against gravity to send blood to the brain
During prostration, blood gushes towards the brain with full force
The increased blood supply causes the brain to receive more nourishment
This has good effects upon memory, vision, hearing, concentration, psyche and all other cognitive abilities

Participating in Usrah II is definitely one of the wonderful moments I had throughout my second semester in CFS. I gained a lot of new things - knowledge, experience and of course, friendship :)

✿ REFLECTIONS ✿

Such knowledge I've learnt includes the wisdom behind each of the element of the Pillars of Islam. Other than that, we also discussed every topic that was set for the role play in great amount of details, and it really helped me enhancing my knowledge.

For instance, I found out how important and crucial it is to always have a good niyyah.
Sadly, we'd usually tend to overlook it in our daily life.

✿ SUGGESTIONS ✿

To increase the efficiency of the Usrah session, it might be a good idea to occasionally combine two groups of Usrah at a time. That way, I believe that more inputs can be obtained and greater opinions would be able to be generated in a short amount of time.

I would like to take this chance to say thanks to all of my usrahmates for all the memories made throughout the times we spent together, and sorry for any of my mistakes.
