Water is everywhere. The Irony of it is while there is plenty of water around the world; very little of it is safe to drink. Consumption of unsafe water continues to be a significant cause of millions of deaths across the globe.

Conclusive evidence proves that simple, low-cost filtration interventions in the home or even at the community level can significantly improve the quality of household water and reduce the risks associated with consumption of contaminated water.

We will now look at a few filtration methods and their benefits. A complete and comprehensive guide can be accessed here.

· What Is In Tap Water?

While tap water is mostly free of disease-causing bacteria and the like, the processes used in achieving this introduces chemicals and impurities into our drinking water that in the long term cause health problems.

1. Chlorine.

Chlorination is the widely accepted means of cleaning water through killing bacteria. However, it is advisable to filter it out as it is at the end of the day a chemical, and has toxic properties.

2. Lead

Lead is a contaminant that can find its way to your tap water and into our bodies. Old rusty pipes, cost-saving measures, accidental contamination and blatant disregard for public health can all lead to lead levels above the legal limit.

3. Viruses

In most cases, you won’t have a problem with infections in your drinking water if you live in a modern city or urban area. In rural areas, however, contamination through human or animal waste can occur, and extra measures should be put in place to guard against disease.

4. Nitrate

Nitrate is an element formed when nitrogen combines with oxygen. Indeed, all living things require nitrate, and it is found even in our drinking water. However, high levels of nitrate when ingested can be dangerous, particularly for pregnant women and children. Filtration can reduce nitrate levels in our water.

· Some Benefits Of A Water Filtration Syste

We have seen that our water may contain any number of potentially harmful chemicals in spite of most tap water being generally safe to drink. A water filtration system, while beneficial in effectively removing impurities has even more advantages.

Pollution from plastic is choking our waterways and killing our wildlife. Having access to clean, safe, drinking water eliminates the need for store-bought water regularly — the fewer water bottles we buy, the less plastic that ends up in landfills.

Eliminating the need to buy drinking water every day or every week can save you tons of money in the long run. Another cost saving as a result of filtration is plumbing. Filtration gets rid of the chemicals and metals that clog and corrode water pipes.

Final Thoughts

Water is life; it is one of the most precious commodities we have. We need water to live, so taking steps such as filtration to ensure that our water is safe and beneficial to our health is of utmost importance. There are many methods you can use including pitcher and faucet system, reverse osmosis system and water distillation system. Do your research to find out which one works best for you.
