It had killed over 50,000 people in just Canada alone. The influenza was brought over to Canada by returning soldiers in ww1. Medical staffs and facilities were all overworked, so volunteers had to set up hospitals in hotels and schools. The Spanish flu had a significant role in the development of Canada's Public Health Department. The health department was founded in 1919 due to the Spanish flu. This epidemic shows how the cause, which is the Spanish flu, resulted in the creation of the Federal Department Of Health, which was founded in 1919.

Between May 15 and June 25, 1919, almost 30,000 employees quit. The Winnipeg General Strike did not benefit workers in the short term. Due to it, there is still resentment and controversies among organized labour groups across Canada. Yet it also assisted in bridging gaps between them by bringing employees together around shared objectives.
