  • 72 million children are in hazardous work that directly endangers their health, safety, and moral development.
  • One of the worst areas for Child Slavery runs along lines running roughly from Seattle to Portland, to San Francisco and Los Angeles, and to Las Vegas. 
  • The most conservative estimates are that at least 100,000 American children are being victimized. Many experts say they believe it's closer to 300,000, even more.

    5. Children are more vulnerable, dependent on people, easily manipulated, and less aware of their rights or they are not able to defend them.

This is a type of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which is a mental illness where your “fight or flight” fear reaction is damaged. You have a feeling of being in danger a lot of the time or all the time. Sometimes this disease can be passed down to their children. They thought that anxiety “trickled like water from the parent to the child.” Some side effects of Child Slavery are:
    1. They become withdrawn
    2. They suddenly behaves differently
    3. They become anxious, clingy, depressed, aggressive
    4. They develop problems sleeping or have nightmares
    5. Children might have eating disorders or have changes in their eating habits
    6. Might miss school
    7. Obsessive behaviour
    8. Drugs and/or alcohol
    9. Self-harm or thoughts about suicide

Child slavery in still happening in America but this time, it's their own citizens who are being enslaved. Many slaves in America are children. They are enslaved because it allows their capturers to make quick easy money. Most capturers of these children are in fact normal people. Most child slavery in America today involves working in the sex industry. To even imagine why these children would do it blows my mind until, I looked further into it. They are tricked and manipulated into doing what their captures tell them to do. Some child slaves don't even know they are slaves. One of the ways a child, particularly female, gets enslaved is by a boy. This boy is around her age and he pretends to have feelings for her. They get into a relationship and start to live together. He tells her to do things (sleep with other men) so they can get money and be able to be together. She does it because she is in love with this boy. This destroys children's emotional and mental well being the most.
