This song is talking about how easy it can be to give your dreams away and take the easy route. However, Antonoff repeatedly states, "Don't take the money. This portrays to not take the easy way out. Work for it. Push yourself. It is not be worth it if it is easy. The Ratliffian element I found most prevalent in this song was Transmission. The lyrics are portraying some deep stuff, while the instrumentals sound bright and happy. I love this song as well. It reminds me that life is not supposed to be easy and that you need to challenge yourself.

This song is talking about how everyone in this world has lost somebody and how he should not be taking his losses so hard. The Ratliffian element I found most prevalent in this song was the idea of closeness. The song surrounds the listener with a bright melody accompanied with a strong harmony. I love this song. It reminds me that I am not alone in my hardships.

The Album, "Gone Now", from the Bleachers is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. Jack Antonoff, singer/songwriter, integrates sounds from previous decades, puts those elements into his music, and somehow embellishes the instrumentals with his relatable and beautifully written lyrics. Antonoff makes the songwriting process seem so simple even when it is not. The singer has a speciality in identifying a problem his life, talking about it, and then portrays how it changed him as a person. Most artists tend to shy away from these topics. Because, well, no one like to talk about their problems, However, Antonoff does not make it sound like that. He makes it sound empowering and able to get through.

I included the two songs, "Everybody Lost Somebody", and "Don't Take the Money", not only because they are two of the best songs on the album, but also because they are the most different from each other, despite being on the same album.
