What is Endless Inventory, Anyway?

Ben Ratliff never gives a direct definition, but rather explains the concept. It is one of the most important musical elements across all types of music. The idea is that, at first, you simply like a song. If the song interests you enough, you become someone who likes the artist. You may sing the music, play it with an instrument, dance to it, or have it recorded. This is endless inventory. Your liking of a song has expanded and grown into a love for the artist and their music. You have become a "shareholder" in the music.

Do I Agree With Ratliff?

I definitely agree with Ratliff. Most of my favorite artists today I discovered through one song. They interested me enough to have me take the time to go and listen to more of their music. It's gotten to the point where I just really enjoy recommending the artists that I've discovered to friends. I am a shareholder because of this, and the fact that I sing and dance to the music.

This piece exemplifies the musical concept of endless inventory because it is just one of Lil Wayne's more popular songs. Hearing this song for the first time makes you want to move with the groovy beat, it's good enough to interest the listener into taking the time to go and listen to his album if they don't already listen to him. It makes people a fan.

I originally heard this song on one of Spotify's pre-made playlists. It was the first piece I had ever heard by this band. I liked it so much that I immediately went to their artist page and listened to all of their music. Palmas is not a very well-known group but they have become one of my favorites. I love their music and I feel as though I have definitely formed a connection with the music because it can be very relatable. I even introduced the music to friends and they are now fans as well. I went from knowing nothing about this group to slowly knowing all of their music. It was a great process, discovering their music.
