My first and main point is that we don’t recognise the first people who lived on this land. 

Those people were the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were living on the land for over 40,000 years ad the constitution was made of a century ago. 

Australia has been known for there fairness and equality but they still haven’t put anything in about the first people on this land.

 We should include the first people in the constitution because 

Today as the 3rd speaker on the affirmative team I’ll be talking from a emotional and cultural point of view. The point I’ll be making today is that the effects of this act, long and short term, will create a more cultural and emotional understanding. But first I will point out some flaws in the oppositions case.

Now on to my first and only point, is that the effects of this act, short and long term, will create a more cultural and emotional understanding. If we go through with our model, than since Australians would be learning all about the history of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. When children learn about what Indigenous Australians have been through, they will feel empathy for them. Some people will be dragged down by their emotions after they learn about the Aboriginals, they will take actions to feel better, or raise money for a fundraiser. People take action according to their emotions. In the future, organisations will be made, and the more recognition, that will be the short term effect and at the same time, Aboriginals will benefit more to society, because they will feel nourished after the recognition. When they feel who they are working for, is worth it, then they will benefit more. We can convince them, by doing something so big that they will feel that who they work for is worth it. Letting our model take place, is something that big, if we just do something smaller than that, it will fade away eventually than something like our model, that will never fade away. The long term effect of our model, would be that Australia could respect our heritage of Aboriginal and British. This would in turn be a way to spread happiness across Australia, which in turn would benefit society more because people would be motivated by that happiness. Not only will Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders be happier, but there will be less racism and hurt towards them, less drug addiction, and the suicide rate will drop. In 2015, the suicide rate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders was 5.2%, as we said in our model, we would like to drop this down by 3% at the least. Indigenous and non-Indigenous could feel a special cultural connection, we can accept our culture in a deep way so we can move on with a ever growing connection. Also, as the world then sees our leadership as Australia, they will learn to honour their heritage too. As a result, Australia would feel connected as a society, and the world would follow by example, so the world will try to morph itself into a greater community, so as a giant community, we could work on bigger things.

So in conclusion, I have shown to you that our model will create many ongoing effects that will improve the world as we know it. You may ask, why do we recognise the indigenous, but the real question is, why not?

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples were living on the land for over 40,000 years and the constitution was made of a century ago. Australia has been known for there fairness and equality but they still haven’t put anything in about the first people on this land. The only country’s that made there constitution fair were Victoria, Queensland, New South Whales and South Australia. They had fix their constitutions so that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were fully recognised.

The way that the way that the constitution can be agreed on is by a referendum. A referendum is a     Vote that you do when you are 18+ and you vote for a text to be changed or added into the Australian Constitution. You can vote on any text to be changed in the constitution or maybe a text that has been going round as a lot of controversy. 

To conclude, we should be recognising the first people on this land because they were the people who were here first and not us. They were they the ones who came here first and not us. We were just taking over and thinking it was not important but is is. It is very important.

A referendum is a vote by Australians over the age of 18, just like voting in an election. Instead of voting on politicians as we do in an election, in a referendum we vote on a specific change to the Constitution. 

In a 1967 referendum, over 90% of Australian voters agreed to change our Constitution to give the federal parliament the power to make laws in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and to allow for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to be included in the census. But this referendum did not recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as first peoples.
