I chose this book because when I read the back of the book it was very interesting to me. The book was about child labor and I have always been very curious about this subject. The cover picture was also very appealing to me. I like reading realistic fiction and this book had a very symbolic meaning to it so it was ideal for me to read it. My mother had also read this book previously and recommended it to me.

"The house of our master, Hussain Khan, was in the outskirts of Lahore, not far
from the dusty, dry countryside where flocks of sheep from the north grazed." I think this is a good opening line because it's interesting and made me visualize the setting. It helped set the theme. The author drops the reading in the Carpet loom manufacturing place.

in this book, Iqbal, the main character, ends up escaping child labor in Pakistan and then makes it his life goal to try to help kids who also experienced the same things as him. Sadly he was shot and ended up passing away. On the other hand, Malala Yousafzai is also a Pakistani activist. She fought for girl rights and is very passionate about it. She also got shot once, but thankfully she is still alive! She worked very hard for the rights of children. They both were fighting for children's rights in Pakistan. They ended up starting in Pakistan but then they ended up traveling around the world inspiring other people. In both of their lives, they had gotten shot, sadly only Iqbal didn't make it.

They use the flashback to show us how she gets through her hardships and what keeps her going. I know it's a flashback because they talk about how she was in the moment and how she felt during that time.

Then he drew many other lines, one next to the other, as straight as the hair on the back of a frightened dog, and every group of four had a line through it. " This dialogue is important to the book because this is where all of the kids started and this is where their lives all started to get worse. It's a monumental event!

"What has that got to do with anything?" asked Salman. "We did it for you." "Well," said Iqbal, "and I did it for you, in a certain sense, as well as for me." "What do you mean?" I asked. This dialogue is important because it shows us the first time that the kids started bonding and it is the beginning of their friendship. Which is very important in the next few chapters.

They make it clear throughout the book that this is normalized in many countries and that it is very wrong. But this book broke those barriers and had a different thought on it. In the book it says "Look at these children," Eshan Khan said to the magistrate. "Look at how thin they are. Look at their hands. Look at those cuts and blisters. And the chains." This shows us that it was normalized to just bribe the officers to get away with bug major things.
