You can play it alone or with your friends. You can play more gamemodes:
  1. Survival                                In this gamemode you need to survive as long as you can. If you die you can continue but you lose your items in your inventory. You need to gather materials, food, tools, armor and many more items. At night you can sleep if you got enough wool to build a bed and skip the night or else you will need to defend yourself from other monsters like zombies, skeletons, giant spiders and other. If you decide to go mining you can find stone, iron, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli and diamonds. You can travel to other dimensions fight bosses find structures and travel.
  2. Hardcore
 Is like survival but you only have one life.

3.  Creative
    Here you have everything from the game and you can't die so you can build and test anything you want.
 
I chose this game because I know a lot of things about it, it's my favourite game and is very complex but fun.
