Provide students with a vocabulary guide and reading material in the preparation for the lesson.
5. Pros: too many to list, easy for teachers and students. Cons: Takes all the thinking out of it for teachers to be creative on their own. I have used padlet to provide in-class discussions at the end of lessons, and it has really allowed students to demonstrate that they learned the material being taught.
4. Padlet can be used as either a bell-ringer or a ticket out the door, depending on what you need for an opener or a closer. It can also be used if you are showing a video and you want students to discuss the video after it is over.
5. Pros: It is extremely easy to use. The students can be anonymous if they don't feel comfortable attaching their names to their posts.
Cons: No real cons that I can see.
6. $8 a month for individual plans. School plans vary. You can use Padlet as a free resource.

Pear Deck is a Google Slides add-on that produces interactive material to add into a Google Slides presentation. Pear Deck can be used to show evidence of learning by incorporating formative assessments into the Google Slides presentation itself.
4. This can be used in the classroom to check student understanding throughout instruction. For example, you can create custom interactive questions to see whether or not students have retained the information they have been learning.
5. Pros: Convenient for those who are already familiar with Google Slides, interactive, seems user-friendly
Cons: Might be tedious to utilize every day
6. Free! :)

Nearpod

https://nearpod.com/

Provides: Evidence Learning: This is a presentation program that makes slideshows much more interactive and engaging, and students join in to see the presentation on their own device, and can take part in integrated activities. One of my favorite ways to use it is to make virtual post-it boards to do quick summarizer questions to gauge understanding of concepts mid lesson, and to use polls to lead to discussion about different stances students may take about readings.

A few possibilities are listed above, it also has integrative, interactive class field trips built into it. So, adding in locations from literature or where a writer is from for students to look at while we read or listen to an audiobook would be very helpful.

Pros:

Interactive with students

Lots of different activities and tools

Google classroom integration

Can be student paced or teacher led

Cons

Can be overwhelming to learn

Students will have to take a time or two to get used to getting logged in

Mostly free, has a premium version that people can buy for further tools

Gracie Wentz
1. NewsELA
2. Newsela.com
3. This could work for a Social Studies or English classroom. This tool gives standards-aligned informational content; it takes articles from various news sources and puts them in one place. NewsELA allows teachers to assign anything from news articles to poetry. You can generate tiered reading assignments for students based on their Lexile level. This would be a great tool to use for evidence of learning as students can demonstrate how to effectively analyze an informational text and how to answer writing prompts based on a text.
4. This tool can be used in an English classroom as it gives writing prompts for each article, poem, or text they read. It could be used to read up on a current event in a social studies class or major historical events. This site really helps create global citizens.
5. Pros: A LOT. Students can stay up to date on current events and become better global citizens. The prompts provide a well-rounded analysis of the article like asking for the purpose which is covered in every grade in an English class. It also has the Lexile level for each article which helps with differentiation.
Cons: Not really any I don't think. It is very helpful if you want to incorporate current events.
6. I don't think there is a cost; however, you probably need a subscription through your school.

This can be a great bell ringer and tool to show the landscape and culture of the country or city that you are talking about that day. Pro, great visionary tool for students. Con, can be tricky to find and work at times, as well needs a crash course to use it. Cost is 30.00 for the crash course.
