One reason is that students get more time to sleep and won’t wake up tired and have emotions that are hard to control. Sue Shellenbarger points out in “Understanding the zombie teen’s body clock" that students are more irrational when they're sleep deprived. Their emotions are much harder to control. 
This evidence makes it quite clear that sleep is important for adolescents. (A.C.)

In "Sleep is one thing missing in busy teen lives," Denise Grady explains that some drawbacks of a later start time is that some students are unable to take part in after school activities, and some say they are earning less at their after school job because of their later school start time.
