(2) The Trump Wall - Protest

The Trump Wall is a project that is sent forth by the President of The United States- Donald Trump- to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico border. The project is set in place to put an end to the Illegal Chain Migration and Immigration in America because Trump wants to protect his country at all costs. This article shows Trumps direct discrimination and fear against those of Mexican decent who are immigrants, as he calls them "criminals" and "rapists". The article also highlights the important perspectives of those marching in the anti-Trump protest, as they united to portray the strength held within them to fight for their rights and freedoms. Jose Antonio Sanchez- a 73 year old protestor- says "This is a time to build bridges, not walls". This man represents and stands for the purpose of how change is suppose to better the future and bring us together, not divide us. While Trump has different plans set in place for the future of America, he makes it widely known through his social media and actions that he has no respect for those of certain ethnicities and that is why he is the most controversial president. He uses his money, connections, and platform to follow through with his so called "accomplishments" to "Make America Great Again". Just like Abigail Williams in The Crucible, Trump plans to protect the future of America and Americans by signing deals and contracts that can create and/or terminate drastic changes in the economy and society. In The Crucible, John Proctor is well known as an honest man and he uses his reputation to help serve and protect the innocent people of Salem but gets accused of Witchcraft by Mary Warren to which Abigail pressured her to lie. The portrayal of how fear and accusations led to hysteria in the town of Salem by Abigail, relates to the intentions of Trumps fear against Mexicans in America- who portray John Proctors innocence and being accused- resulting in massive protests and rejections.

The Crucible is an example of how fear, suspicion, and unfounded accusations can morph into mass hysteria and tragedy within a society- in Arthur Miller's case- the implication of witches leading to innocent deaths. Today, various different cultures and religions clash beliefs, arising in agitation and disruptions within societies. In Miller's play, he provides scenarios where the beliefs and accusations of others in authority are drawn forth to the public which stir bizarre contemplation's resulting in innocent deaths. Even though The Crucible represents the fraction of this hysteria and tragedy, many people today are facing similar accusations because of implications from dominated and higher authorities. The terrorist group "ISIS", is one of today's corrupted representations of how to demolish those who are of Christian, Yazidis, and Shia religion, which unfortunately unveils the dark reality of peoples objectives against targeting religious minorities.

(3) The Right Word - Imtiaz Dharker

The Right Word is a poem written by Imtiaz Dharker that is about a suspicious and divided community, where different perspectives lead to doubt and fear. The diction used is thoughtful towards a deeper meaning and has simplicity to it, which is enough to get her message across. Throughout the poem, different assumptions and uncertainties are made about this one person, but through different viewpoints. This sparks the interest in a reader since the poem itself dramatizes the search to know one's own mind, and the process of thought from uncertainty to certainty. Within the poem, phrases are repeated as the narrator finds an accurate way to describe the young advocate who seems threatening at first, but in the end seems as a harmless child. The phrases change from "lurking in the shadows", to "taking shelter in the shadows", then to "waiting in the shadows", and then to "watchful in the shadows", to "defying every shadow", and finally to "lost in shadows". This poem exemplifies that labelling something or someone can turn it into a threat when it isn't one to begin with. Just like in The Crucible, this can be seen when the majority of the town of Salem believed the lies and unfounded accusations brought forward by Abigail, since they suspected and observed abnormal behaviors. Unlike Reverend Hale, he always saw the bigger picture and sought the intentions of multiple innocent people, and wasn't dependent of his own judgments first. In The Crucible, the play is dominated by the majorities fear of others unfounded accusations about witchcraft, while The Right Word represents the how society becomes fearful of those who they mistake for terrorists- both comprehend the importance of viewpoints leading to violence.

(1) Take Me to Church - Hozier

Take Me to Church by Hozier is a music video that represents the undermining of humanity- those who are members of LGBTQ- within teachings at Catholic Churches. The video and lyrics show the attack of violence and trespassing of these individuals lives, by those who oppose their choices, based on their orientations. Throughout the actions portrayed in the video, they highlight the relevance that people from dominated groups will try to "change" others because they are of different orientation and/or beliefs. The male couple characters in the video, represent how the members and supporters of LGBTQ are being oppressed, brutally beaten, and even killed by those who follow the teachings of Catholic Churches. This demonstrates how those who except themselves for who they are, are marginalized even in todays society but varies to extenuating circumstances in different countries around the world. This video portrays the treatment of LGBTQ members at the hands of opposing groups within a society and exemplifies the importance of equality for their lives. As in the video where the antagonist group of men drag one of the male LGBTQ members towards the fire, they throw his box of belongings into the fire. Just like the group of girls dancing in the woods in The Crucible, the group of men use their actions (supporting their beliefs) to portray the unfair treatment towards another human being, as they shame his personal items and body. In The Crucible, the performance of witchcraft is unacceptable which leads to the torture and deaths of innocent people, while Hozier's intentions of Take Me to Church reflect the struggles of those who are LGBTQ members.
